We had a very good experience. The hosts were EXCELLENT! They kept the restrooms and sites so very clean! I would have rated our experience q five-star experience if the other campers could have kept dogs from barking and kids screaming. The campers in one space had a toddler who quite literally screamed for attention constantly.

We stayed in double site 26, which has lots of space for multiple tents (at least 3). Sites are deep and most are very spacious. Site 26 backs site 20 and 22, so if all are occupied privacy could be an issue between tent pads (they were both empty during our stay). A great group set up would be site 26 (double) with sites 20 and 22. I would avoid site 15. The bathroom is just a few steps away from the picnic table of site 15 and the site has been cleared of most trees.

What the... I just spent a bunch of time writing a detailed review. Got to the last question (cell coverage) and it won't let me add a different provider and when I try to submit, it tells me my rating is invalid. I go back to see where I went wrong and all my work (several hours) are gone. Really pissed. Host: 5 star Everything else: 2-3 Not going to spend time again.

Islet Campground at Waldo Lake is simply the best!!! Big Beautiful camp spots and very close access to the lake :))

Stacy is the best camphost this campground has ever had. We've camped here every year since 2012, except in 2021. Everything in great condition. Only complaint is making reservations. I can never make them far ahead of time, not sure how everyone else does it.
@CharlesC950415 · Camped on Aug 2, 2022 at Campsite #32
Stacy, the camp host is amazing. The problem was not with her. She gave us updates about the forest fire as soon as she had them. There was a miscommunication, and we were evacuated unnecessarily. The "wilderness" quality of Islet CG has gone down ever since they started taking reservations. Large groups reserve multiple sites and basically take over the campground. They are inconsiderate of all the other campers.

This is a great campground with space for your tents. The lake is beautiful. There are LOTS of mosquitoes.
@RichardS712869 · Camped on Jul 28, 2022 at Campsite #4
lovely place. I would not use Recreation.gov to reserve any of the sites there. There are lots that are even better than what they list.

Islet Campground is a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty and recreation of Waldo Lake and the surrounding areas. The Campground Manager, Stacy, is very friendly and helpful. (Cute dog, Tripper, too!) Campsites are spacious and vault toilets are clean and smell nice! No need to reserve a site here, especially in July when there are definitely mosquitoes. Bug repellent is a must. If you love kayaking, swimming and/or sailing, Waldo is a sight to see. The clarity is unmatched by any lake I've been in. And I've been in a lot of lakes!

We love camping at Islet. We had a great campsite.

Disappointed with camp host. Her dog ran loose throughout the grounds. Growling and following me as I walked my dog. Her dog even ran into my camp forcing me to lock my dog in the car for her safety. HOWEVER waldo lake is incredible a must see.

The smoke was pretty thick, but the Lake was nice and it wasn’t as busy as usual.

Islet has the best camp host we've ever had! Staci was helpful and kind. We have been camping at Waldo Lake ever since a road was built to it's amazing shore! The campground was cleaner than we've ever seen it before. Thank you so much also for the amazing dog visit with Tripper McNabb, a very obedient and kind pooch.

Very clean and well maintained. Great camp hosts.

Been to Islet several times- Waldo is great of course but I wanted to thank our camp host particularly: I’ve seen some bad pit toilets this year but Stacy was very attentive to these- clean, stocked and smelled great! She had buckets of “secret sauce”! Our site was right next door and never a problem. She was great managing site changes, added visitors etc.
@KarenK513 · Camped on Aug 1, 2021 at Campsite #32
There were dogs running off leash throughout the campground even though the camp host continued to tell people to keep their dogs on leash, per campground rules. One dog pooped in my campsite while it was wandering through, and I had to clean it up. There were large groups of loud, rude people. This campsite has gone down hill ever since they changed from all first come first served to mostly reserved sites.

We love this campground. It is very well maintained and quiet. We were there July 22-24. Mosquitos were still there, but only really bad one of the days. Over two days on 5 trails, only passed two other riders and a single hiker. Planning to go back to ride around the lake in August.
@AlisaC222 · Camped on Jul 12, 2021 at Campsite #47
All is well until you can’t fit your tent in the site you paid for without seeing a photo and then pick the when right next door which is vacant and first come first serve.. We had to pay for that site and am trying to get our money back for the first site?? We will see.
@WilliamO974 · Camped on Jul 2, 2021 at Campsite #47
The area, especially the lake is breathtakingly beautiful. However, unless you have the means to get out on the water you cannot escape the unbearable mosquitoes. The other major issue was that there were many hazardous trees laying in and across camp sites; one hole left by a rootball was at least three feet deep and directly behind our picnic table.
@LaurieW430 · Camped on Jun 30, 2021 at Campsite #44
Everything you hear is true. It's a paradise, until mosquito come out. Sprayed my clothes and tent with permethrin, DEET from head to toe. My dog had repellent on. Both of us were literally eaten alive. my dog had bites so bad you could see visible bumps all over her body. Sadly we only stayed one night. Ranger had on hat with netting and rain gear ( it was 85 degrees) he said that was the only thing he found to help .

This is a really beautiful campground with campsites just 40 feet or so from the lake. The campsites are a good size and most are under old growth trees. My particular campsite was 47 and the trail down to the islet point was right beside by site. I was doing photography so this was very convenient for me. There is a nice shoreline trail that is easily accessed from most camp sites to take you around the lake, it is wide and well maintained. The boat ramp is easily accessible and nice and wide. There were a number of paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes on the lake. The restrooms were very clean and well maintained. This is a really beautiful lake and I will be returning.

This is my second visit to this campground. I love the location, the abundant trees and the large campsites on the lakeside. This last visit, there was no water available which became an issue as it is a 40 minute drive to buy water. The mosquitos were out in their usual full force which is something to be reckoned with. So with that being said, bring extra water and the best mosquito repellent you can find. I also suggest spraying your tent with a mosquito preventative prior to arrival. Other than that, awesome campground!!
@JohnM340 · Camped on Jun 25, 2021 at Campsite #15
Lots of winter damage to trees that had not been cleared as of June 26th; USFS folks were there working on it but still hadn't cleared some trails. The mosquitoes were vicious! My wife tells everyone we will never go back there again! There was no campground host; the Shadow Bay Host was the contact. Best place to camp seemed to be about 1-2 miles east; disperse camp away from the lake!
@SaraH546 · Camped on Jun 25, 2021 at Campsite #14
Even though the water hadn’t been turned on yet for the season and there was not a camp host selling seasoned firewood, our visit to Islet campground was a pleasant one. The campsites were tidy and well dispersed. Waldo lake is a favorite destination for us. The mosquitoes were plentiful and impressive in number; a factor to keep Waldo visits limited to fall season when evening temperatures knock down the numbers of the pesky little critters.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
