Really nice campsite. Sites were clean, spacious and well kept. Bathrooms were clean but the womens one near us ran out of toilet paper and didnt get filled. Would stay here again n

Fantastic large sites. Sites are quite a bit away from each other providing privacy and the feel of back country camping. They are well kept and have a secure bear proof storage box and fire place.

It's a disgrace! I received no communication informing me that the campsite was closed due to flooding. I found myself in front of the closed barrier at 9pm after a long ferry crossing without knowing where to go or where to sleep! I travel alone and on foot! I was distraught! And the worst part is that I had to fight to get a refund and you still refuse to refund me the $8 booking fee even though the cancellation was your fault, you didn't notify anyone and I had to pay another, more expensive campsite for my stay! I am outraged by your lack of consideration for your customers!!

The staff have great communication and were super helpful. The location of the campsite itself is great. I would definitely visit again!

We really love this campground. Quite, scenic, close to town if you need anything.

I loved this campground. The site I used was absolutely perfect with great tree coverage, a nice large picnic table and fire pit. The washrooms and showers were close by and very clean (with hot water, yay!). I know in some camp spots you can have good views of the glacier. The road is well maintained and just overall I had a really great experience here.

Absolutely beautiful location for a campground. Most of the sites are a pretty decent size. Biggest complaint is that the showers are locked until 8am and then again from "some time in the afternoon/evening" as the host said. No set time for relocking, just seemed to be based on whenever the host felt like doing it. After a day of hiking we returned at 4pm to find the showers had already been locked foe the evening and ended up paying to go for a swim at a local pool so we could shower afterwards. I'm not sure of the logic behind locking the showers during the morning and evening hours when people are actually at camp. Also, bring your own hand soap as they don't provide any in the washrooms.

Campsite was great, it was next to the lake and a water faucet nearby for drinking water and for cooking. The restroom facilities were conveniently located. It was quiet and no one was too close to our campsites.

An absolutely stunning piece of land that the campground sits upon, across the lake from the towering Mendenhall Glacier. I camped at site #26 in the backpackers loop and hardly saw another soul back there. Sites are well spaced and private. The source of the Mendenhall River begins right at this location and itll lull you to sleep unless the rain itself comes down too hard, in which case thatll drown out all other sounds. Speaking of that river, it definitely swells and seeps into the area near the sites. The flooding during summer of 23 washed out a few sites in another section of the campground. Views of the glacier are abundant, from multiple sites, just a quick walk down to the lake from any given site. Wildlife is readily seen, from beavers and gulls, to an occasional bear (or so the signs say). The campground has a short nature trail around the glacial carved ponds that dot the area, a quick and easy stroll for all humans. The west glacier trailhead is only a short walk or drive outside the campground and youll also find a nice beach area for putting your kayak or canoe into the lake, should you have one with you. Showers are hot, which was so very appreciated with how damp you can feel at all times in Southeast Alaska. Pit toilets are found all around the campgrounds and flush toilets are located near the showers. All in all, this is a wonderful and inexpensive place to enjoy nature and the abundance of beauty that Alaska has on display. I spent 3 nights here and will gladly do it again. The only cons to this campground are the invariabilty of the river, which is prone to flooding in summer months due to glacier outbursts and the presence of riff-raff, as mentioned by a National Forest Ranger who I spoke to on my last day, although I didnt run across anyone myself that would have fit the bill. I guess thats just a good reminder to keep your valuables on hand, which is always good advice.

Tent camping review. This was a great camp ground. Very clean and quiet. You can't beat the proximity to the park and hiking. Some of the sites even have great views. Each site has plenty of privacy, so even with intermixed RV's it stays pretty quiet. The showers were okay, not the cleanest and not the hottest but got the job done. My only complaint was coming after dark the first night to someone clearly squatting with their RV in our site. The camp hosts do not mark each site with the booked reservations (even though the posts clearly say that the section we were in were "reservation only". So people just drop in and take sites, assuming they aren't reserved. We attempted to solicit the camphosts help but in the 4 nights we stayed there, we never saw the hosts available once. We asked the people to move the next morning in daylight- not wanting to start anything or end up shot by knocking on their door and asking them to move that first night. However, that meant that we set up in someone else's potentially reserved site and started a huge domino effect. So I recommend getting there early to make sure your reserved spot isn't taken.

Sewer connection is cumbersome. Inlet to campground sewer is higher than output of RV. This makes for some very interesting work.Also, the freshwater flow is very slow.

Ferry didnt run and ended up having to switch campsites everyday for 4 days and all campsites are booked but nobody uses them. No staff around and no wood. I forgot once some food and cooking equipment in the bearbox and went to retrieve them 2 hours later and all food had been thrown in garbage and glass jars broken so all was ruined, the cooking equipment the staff stole and I had to dig out my food from the trash pin and call around all numbers that dont answer or call back. Unbelievable. Never use a campsite in the US again.

Noticed that most the sites were empty yet showed not available when renting a site. This was thru most of the summer which was a little inconvenient when wanting a sewage site. Other than that love the campground! The staff were always friendly and facility was always clean.

Campground is great. $8 in fees for a $10 site is ridiculous.

Great experience at this campground. Despite the constant helicopter noise, we enjoyed a spacious campground, view on Mendenhall glacier, hot showers and cute evening walks on site.

I have always enjoyed Mendenhall camp ground because of its lay out, location and amenities. I lived in Juneau for three years and used to camp there quite often with my girlfriend. For this visit I was just back to visit some friends so I decided to stay at the campground. The biggest and ono problem that I had with this stay was the cleanliness of my campsite and the bathroom/ shower buildings. Based on my previous visit it was quite dirty. When I arrived at my site I noticed quite a bit of trash littered throughout my camp site and parking area. When I got out of my car I walked up to the fire pit. it was filled with trash like cans, broken bottles, plastic bags and various other things. The bathroom/ shower buildings were not being cleaned. The floors looked liked the hadnt been swept in weeks. The shower stalls, sinks and toilets were filthy also. The shower curtains were only on a couple of hooks and were covered with black mold spots. All in all I was very disappointed. I never experienced the campground facilities so dirty. I think the campground hosts are responsible for these duties but I only saw them refill the toilet paper. I hope this gets resolved and I am glad you gave me the opportunity to review the campground.

Beautiful campground. We picked lots of blueberries on the trail that winds through it.

The lack of posted reservations on the campsite caused us to have an unfavorable experience of having someone park their camper on our reserved site, since we were gone with our camper during the day. Also with limited help on site (camp host most often had Off-Duty sign up) it took us 2 hours to resolve by having to eventually move to a different site, since there was no physical postings at the campground which could have indicated which sites were available.

Not only was the first service staff rude but the camp host was as well.. we had to worry about our belongings every night due to the camp site being filled with drug addicts. I brought this situation up to the host, and his response was keep it things closer.. the cops were there almost nightly, and they even found individuals that were robbing other people camp sites. And yet they were allowed to stay..the area it's self is beautiful and the camp sites are clean...

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
