Love this cabin and trail. It was hard work in the soft snow, but well worth it.

One of the best Juneau area cabins! Propane heat, spiral staircase, great views, and an awesome muskeg hike in.

The cabin was in good shape. The outhouse needs emptying. The propane stove took a while to heat up but then got too warm without thermostat to control heat.

The cabin is absolutely amazing. Peace like you can never imagine.

The John Muir cabin is a very nice cabin. Cards are a must have for the long evenings.

Great Trip! The cabin was super-clean, toasty warm and buffeted the 30 knot winds and driving rain well. The propane worked beautifully. I
t would be nice for a straightforward remark: if you see the pilot light then simply turn the knob and adjust the thermostat. We spent a little bit of time running through the pilot-lighting instructions. Trail Mix's work on the trail is nice as far as it goes and will be be even nicer as they progress. The boards are slippery and yak trax/grippers were a must. Two trees were down and blocking the trail. Scrambling over and around them with packs was a bit iffy for a couple of old ladies?! There did appear to be some water seeping in from under the front right-hand side of the metal sheet under the wood stove. Otherwise, it was another fantastic cabin trip brought to us by USFS! Thanks!

This cabin is lovely and in great shape. There was not enough snow in mid-January 2021 to do the JM-Peterson ski traverse. (We did it, but on a mix of snowshoes and microspikes, with lots of falling into hidden muskeg holes).

The propane was awesome, the view was incredible! The hike wasn't too hard, and the way down with less food and water flew by! The trivia game was awesome and fun to see the notebooks filled with recent trips. Definitly bring crampons if you are going in the winter months- life savers. Perfect weekend get away!

Amazing views and quiet location. Can get icy hiking in the fall when it's still raining, but still temperatures are hovering around freezing. Can't wait to go back!

This is a fantastic cabin, that easily accommodates two families of 4 comfortably. There is a spiral staircase to the upstairs, which is sealed off from the downstairs by a storm door. Closing the upstairs door keeps the upstairs quarters cooler if the stove is cranking downstairs. There are 2-3 windows downstairs with screens, and one upstairs with a screen, which is nice for ventilation without bugs. Maybe Bring tape for small gaps in the screens. The propane stove was easy to use (and nice for warming tortillas in foil!), and the additional woodstove is a great backup/addition. There is a muskeg meadow with some flowing water in front of the cabin that can be boiled/filtered, but it is pretty tanic and buggy. Fill up your bottles at a nicer stream along the trail up if you can. The no-see-ums in the meadow got a little vicious. The hike has elevation gain but it never very steep, and heavily planked, so was very do-able for 9 and 11 year olds with light backpacking packs. We wore waterproof hiking shoes instead of rubber boots and were happy with the choice, but if heavy rains you might be better off with boots.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
