Loved the campsite we were in .BUT.....our biggest complaint was the freeway noise, which is 24 hours a day. We had a great spot on the river. Our granddog loved being able to swim there. Out house bathrooms were clean. Hardly saw the camp host. Sites needed to be marked if taken as it confused people.

The site is great, just by the river, but the proximity to I-80 ruins everything! Spent only one night here and was more than happy to leave in the morning!

Highway noise was very loud. We still made the best of the experience though.

Arrived to find that another group had taken one of the two sites I reserved. Fortunatly we had some Scouts and a parent backout so we could fit into the one site. We had a beach front site and the boys loved having access to the river. This is a very loud campground with noise from Highway 80 24/7 and on the other side is noise from the trains going by. After awhile you do tune out the noise but not the place to come if you want to sit and listen to nature. Bathrooms were clean and had toilet paper. Camp Host was friendly and addressed the campers in the wrong spot. (They had come up early in the day, before the Host had flipped the signs from "Open" to "Reserved"). This was mid September and there were plenty of open spots for first come first served. Reserve early if you want one of the beach front sites.

The campsite itself was great, very convenient to be right near the bathrooms and a water spigot, especially because we arrived after dark! The only downside to the whole campground is that it is literally right next to the freeway and the sound of traffic is constant. There was some garbage left behind by previous campers (including silverware??) but other than that it was fine!

We always have a good time here. The freeway noise is loud but we dont mind.

Expected considerable traffic noise from I-80 and were not disappointed. Access to the Yuba River was a bit difficult, but doable to anyone who really wanted to dip their toes in the water. Separation between sites is excellent with tall thick green folliage.

Cute campground. Yes it's near the freeway but the drive from Sacramento is easy and the waterfront campsites basically have a private beach. Camp host keeps everything very clean.

Like many reviews, the freeway noise is very noticeable when sleeping in a tent. First time tent camping here, usually in a motorhome. Nice creek to float in, was 75' water, but was 105' in Sacramento that week. Air temp was about 92' with a slight breeze, so the creek swimming was great.

Big Campsite, the creek is right across (passing through a campsite) the creek is deep enough to enjoy a dip, less to no people as most of the people go to the main natural pool

This campsite is soo tiny and only 1 car can park
@DavidF8210922 · Camped on Jun 28, 2024 at Campsite #15
I was prepared for the highway noise (which I got used to) but was not prepared or aware of how little room there was at any (?) of the campsites for tents. I probably missed some notice somewhere when booking...

Nice little campground. Freeway is a little loud but you get used to it. I would go back again.
@BrettG40A40F44 · Camped on Aug 20, 2023 at Campsite #8
Yea the freeway is close and youll hear some noise but it was worth it. The campground was clean, and many of the sites have a lot of bushes/trees for privacy. Unfortunately it was cold the weekend I went so we didnt get to swim but Im looking forward to coming back.
@ElissaM24F3FD8 · Camped on Aug 18, 2023 at Campsite #19
This campground is RIGHT NEXT TO the freeway. The noise is assaulting. We had a sight within 50 yards of the freeway and could see and hear cars flying by all night long. It felt unsafe and was incredibly disruptive to our sleep.
@brucer6955059 · Camped on Aug 15, 2023 at Campsite #2
The location is beautiful, right beside the Yuba River,but the highway noise is constant and loud.Ear phones are required.
@KellyS8987536 · Camped on Aug 12, 2023 at Campsite #3
We had a great visit. I can see the road noise being loud if you are in a tent but it wasnt an issue for us. It was convenient to lots of things we were interested in.

Clean, well kept. One of my favorite campgrounds. Great swimming access. Sites are big and spread out. Mostly enclosed and private.
@Christina50083 · Camped on Jul 27, 2023 at Campsite #18
This is on the loop closest to the freeway, so there is a lot of freeway noise. Since it was constant, it didnt bother us much (we considered it like white noise, similar to a constant roar of a waterfall). The site is fairly large, with a lot of shade. Since its not on the waters edge, getting to it without walking through someone elses camp was a little challenge (through some bushes over a rotted log under a fallen tree to a trail, or short walk up Hampshire Rocks Rd then over some rocks.). Wear water shoes when in the water, the rocks are slick. Bathrooms were some of the cleanest and best smelling vault toilets I have ever seen, and right next to the site.

Beautiful area and found a small spot to enjoy the river. Clear and clean campground. However, you're in very close proximity to the other camp sites and VERY close to the freeway. Not a restful evening at all unfortunately. Be warned. The 80 is LOUD. All night.
@FrankE8405301 · Camped on Aug 8, 2022 at Campsite #15
The campground was lovely and uncrowded, the river was very pretty, and the vault toilets were clean. Unfortunately, there is no where in the campground to escape the unrelenting and very loud freeway noise from hwy. 80. It goes on 24/7 and is so intense that my husband and I couldn't hear each other unless we raised our voices. There is also the sound of Amtrak trains on the tracks, but that was minor compared to the highway. Earplugs only muffled the noise in our tent at night. (Maybe in an RV or a trailer the noise would be acceptable.) We spent 2 nights and skipped our last night. I'd say only stay at Hampshire Rocks if you have no other option. For us, it was not a pleasant experience. We renamed it, "I Can't Hear You! Campground."
@NickS9183761 · Camped on Aug 6, 2022 at Campsite #18
Absolutely beautiful site. Sites on the side closest to the 80 can have a lot of noise from the road.
@Christina53949 · Camped on Jul 15, 2022 at Campsite #11
Had a great peaceful time with my family. The water was perfect temperature this time of year for swimming. There were no loud neighbor campers. Campsite and bathrooms were clean. You can get fresh water from the spicket. All in all great camping experience.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
