This spot is unlike most of the others. The site is described as a pull through. Your vehicle, Rv, or trailer will be parked parallel to the road. It made it a bit awkward with our trailer as we couldnt put down our camp rug, or enjoy our awning patio due to rocks separating the area from the actual camp site. The site itself is actually quite large and has a length view of the river. Initially I wanted to throw in the towel and say forget it, lets find another place to camp. But Im glad we stayed.One other fair warning if you have a camp trailer, camper, van or RV there will be outhouse restroom facilities just feet from your accommodations. These werent even shown on the map.

Loved it! Clean, quite and the weather was perfect during the day. A bit cold at night.

Granite Flat is conveniently located a few miles out of Historic Truckee, making it an easy drive or bike ride into town. The campground is situated between Highway 89 and the Truckee River, and several camp sites back up to the river. The campsites are clean and well maintained, with large bear boxes at each site. The pit toilets are also well maintained and odor free. There is significant road noise due to the campground's proximity to the main road, and even in October, traffic on 89 is pretty constant. Trees help to block headlights to some extent. That said, Granite Flats is an extremely relaxing, convenient and economical place to stay in the Lake Tahoe area.

Clean bathrooms, clearly marked campsite, easy access to the river. Easy access (~2 miles) to multiple stores like grocery, camping gear, gas station, etc.Only downside is a bit of traffic noise which subsides after mid-night.

Nice enough campsite and I was happy to get something in Tahoe on short notice. Do NOT be fooled though. This campground is RIGHT next to a busy state highway where people routinely go 60+ mph. If noise is a problem for you look elsewhere. Period. That said, I hate noise but I did get used to it and actually had a decent time. So there ya go

It's a great location and only gets knocked down a star because it is right on the highway which makes it really loud. This is not our first time here and won't be our last. Being close to Tahoe and Truckee is a plus. I read reviews about the grumpy camp host and they were right. We didn't have to have a conversation with him but we tried to pet his super friendly dog and that wasn't happening.

I chose this site as a place to stay while "getting to altitude" for a local race. This would not be a place I would choose for a regular camping experience due to the direct access to highway 89 (lots of noise)...that I had factored in for this trip. The bathrooms and garbage were well maintained. The camp host was not there the first couple of days, but they did have a listing of phone numbers to reach someone. I needed to call the ranger station as the last campers in my site had not vacated by 3 pm.My only disappointment, which seems to be more the norm these days, is that multiple other campers chose to share their music with the those camping around them and with the noise allowance of 6 am to 10 pm, there does not seem to be anything one can do. So disappointing as camping should have noises like the stream, birds, wind...and maybe singing around the campfire.

The campsite was next to the main freeway, I felt unsafe. A car accident next to you and you are done. The vegetation is overgrown and hard to spot the site if you arrive at night.

We love staying at Granite Flats. The campground/bathrooms are always clean. There is access to the river. Due to fire conditions this year, there was no charcoal cooking or wood camp fires allowed. We have been wanting a propane fire ring for a while now, I guess we just need to get one. The sites are good sized, provide a picnic table and bear box for your goods.

Noisy due to the proximity of the highway. The bathrooms are pretty smelly. Otherwise it's beautiful and clean, running water and the river right there.

Gracious camp host. Pit toilets didnt stink too much, and the river was fun to play in. Truckee is really close by.

The location is close to Truckee and Tahoe and I80. The traffic noise of the campground is not for everyone. I found it relaxing, being that it reminded me of when I was a child sleeping near a busy road. Ear plugs and a sleep mask may help.The Truckee river flowing next to camp is awesome. A refreshing stop after a nice day of hiking. Bathrooms were clean and water at the spigot was cold.The campground has plenty of rocks for those who tent camp. Bear boxes were very spacious. Much larger than others we have used in Yellowstone, or the Yosemite area.

The camp host, Don, was super accommodating and friendly. The river front campsite was stunningly beautiful and the whole camp was very clean and tidy.

Granite Flat was a pleasant experience. We camped in our trailer. This is dry camping, so come prepared with water, and solar or a generator. You can dump your RV sewage down the highway at a nearby fuel station.The camp ground sites are fairly smallish, my family member reserved the site next door (#4) and the sites spot for a tent wasnt level nor big enough to accommodate their tent. It had to go on our site. Pay close attention to photos. Located on the Truckee River, the sound of the river is soothing. We watched a beaver build up his small dam. Little chipmunks scurry about.Campground has water spigots and vault toilets for ammenities.

Campsite was clean as were pit toilets. Lots of road noise from HWY 89 up until midnight and starting again at about 5. Not much privacy between sites but fellow campers were generally pretty considerate.

We had site 60 two nights and again the next week for one night but moved next door for a second night. Enjoyed the river view and just relaxing and having a camp fire.

The space was very close to the road. A nice Forest Service employee advised me on how to parallel park for safety along the campsite. The camp host was not the most friendly. As a woman camping alone, I felt that he was very abrupt when asking for my 'documents' to prove that I was registered for the space. I had the documents printed, which he should have had from the computer system. If I had not had copies I feel that he would have escalated the situation. I think I was treated rudely by that person due to the 'causes' that I support which were on a sign in the rear of my vehicle's window. He made me feel unsafe.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
