Upon showing up we were unable to safely keep our kids and dog at this campground and had to find a different one last minute after driving back to the I-5 for phone service. There was an frame around a tent area that looked to one time be lovely and level but had eroded in the corners, the frame itself was splintered and broken, there was poison oak growing in the middle of the tent pad and berry bushes and poison oak right up and over the edges. There were cigarette butts and garbage and used toilet paper around the site, the bathrooms could be smelled from most of the campground and there was no water access plus it was very swampy in the water. At full the lake would have been beautiful. There looked to be once a nice water access but it was completely grown over with berry bushes and poison oak. The sites were very small. If you came to sit and lounge all day in the same chair and same spot it would be fine but with two high energy boys and a dog there was nowhere to go and play.

Had a beautiful time. Lake and area was amazing. Note that campsite 11 is not accessible for a trailer over 20 feet due to a retaining wall on the road. We found a non reservable site that worked out great. Will definitely be back.

Amazing gem. Went when lake was high and we were right on the water.

Beautiful camp ground, many of the sites are small and cannot accommodate larger RVs or trailers.

This is most definitely backwoods, no cell service camping. We loved that. We stayed in sites 15-18 and had the best weekend ever. These are non-flushing toilets but I did not go expecting glamourous. The only real negatives are the wasps but they only came out while cooking and no one was stung all weekend. We also did not see bears and I really hoped for bears. We will most definitely make this a yearly tradition. I cant wait to share with my grandchildren.

Ellery Creek is always a great place to camp.

Drinking water is available. Restrooms are clean. Trash lockers are small and overfilled. Beautiful sceneries, but be aware of annoying boaters cruising back and forth, playing music.

We love Ellery Creek. Unfortunately, the bathrooms ran out of toilet paper and they were never refilled. Although the guy didn’t come and clean it, he never filled the toilet paper.

We love Ellery creek! This year there were a lot of mosquitos, so come prepared. There were also a lot of ants, on everything! They covered our tent, tables, and hammock. We were consistently brushing them away. Not an huge problem but really annoying if you leave anything out overnight- they swarm (even if it’s not food related) Additionally, normal water levels are back at Shasta which makes it much more enjoyable to see the water throughout the campground. Some of the sites (all cement/street sites) were flooded out, so I’d be cautious if that. Would’ve been a bummer had we arrived and not had a site that was not flooded! There is NO camp host here. We had a terrible family with a barking dog all night while we were there. They had no self awareness and a lot of people left the following day due to how loud and obnoxious this dog was. Bathrooms are clean. We always stay in campsite 1/2, they connect and give plenty of space for a few extra tents. Site 7 is also nice and secluded. And any along the water (not on the cement/roadway) look lovely, we just are never lucky enough to get those spots when reserving!

Loved how it was peaceful. No one was really there, it wasn’t hot or cold either it was just right.. seen a baby bear across the creek, seen a few bats, had mosquitoes and bees around but that’s normal.. no rattlesnakes, seen jack rabbits, lizard and deer on the road.. ohh and a lot of squirrels too.. close to the caverns as well.. loved the experience..

The campsite was smaller than expected, didn’t fit 7 people as it was stated. Lots of mosquitoes, bug spary didn’t help much. Otherwise the place is beautiful, the creek behind the camp was gorgeous. We had few dears visiting us early in the morning.

Picturesque landscapes that you wake up to. Very close to the river and fun to swim in. Lots of shade over the campsites which are just big enough to fit 2 two person tents. Big parking lot with room to play and run around. Only complaint is there is vast amounts of poison oak near all the campsites.

This campground is the best at Lake Shasta, and I've lived in far northern California and southern Oregon my whole life. It could use a bit of upkeep, though. There's quite a bit of poison oak and blackberries growing in the campsites, which could be easily fixed by maintenance with a weed eater. The SRC staff were friendly but just collected trash and changed the reservation plaques at the campsites. This year was a bit quieter - other years here we have had to deal with parties all night, with music blaring from external speakers, and one year we dealt with swarms of bees!

We used Ellery Creek as a stopover on our way south in mid-May and it was not a good choice. A long drive on a twisty road brings you to a mediocre campground. If you want to be in this area, it would be a better choice as there are some good sites and it's a pretty area. But there are also some terrible sites that are right on the road. The water pumps were not available, the mosquitoes were pretty bad for May, it felt like a ghost town with lots of no-shows, and the view was OK but not great.

The creek is extremely muddy, so don’t expect to swim/walk/wade or set up a chair to sit a few yards from it. However, sunset and sunrise are EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful there. And you can see a few fairly large bear prints down by the creek (bring bear spray & lock up food in the bins provided!!). Road leading to the campsite is quite windy. We were one of two campsites there, but the only one tenting out, it became very windy at night, recommend bringing weights to keep the tent down, stakes didn’t go into the ground (could be that the tent was over pavement)

The group before us left our site really dirty, with trash overflowing. The site host was very kind and made an extra trip to remove the trash, which we greatly appreciated! Great location, so beautiful. The water level was incredibly low, but we still had a great time in the lake. We loved the fire rings that were set away from the campsite a bit, and we enjoyed a beautiful fire under the stars. Would come back.

We had a nice site tucked under some trees #07. Very hot during the summer, but easy access to the lake. Prepare for lots of mosquitos!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
