Beautiful camp, camp hosts were very helpful and kind. Each camp site was clearly marked and clean

A very nice campground. Clean. Feels very much in the remote forest for being so close to Sante Fe.

Our site, #16, was very nice with easy back-in. There was plenty of room for our 25' Class C. The only issue we had was there is no water in the park due to infrastructure issues that are being worked on. So, there is no water available in the area. We were able to dump at the Hyde Memorial State Park dump station about 1/2 mile up the road. The rangers need to unlock the gate for you and the fee is $10. We would come back here because it is a beautiful, quiet campground and an easy drive into Santa Fe.

Nothing wrong at all with campground but our site was double booked! Thank goodness for the wonderful host who helped us get situated in a new spot! We had driven 9 hours and if turned away I am not sure what we would have done!

Nice secluded walking sites, camp host was great. Still dont know why national parks wont fix the water issues, lack of water for the past 5 years

Campsites were a little tight for our 21 ft trailer, but the campground was beautiful. Hope you can get the water turned on soon!

I stayed 2 nights, a week apart, and found the campground adequate, with minimal facilities. The pit toilet was relatively clean; there was no water anywhere on the site. The second night, I discovered my campsite inhabited by a man-- with his tent canopy erected, roaring fire, and all his stuff out on the table. He'd been there some time, despite the fact that the post clearly showed the site to be reserved by me. I asked him why he was in my campsite, and he pretended he didn't see the reservation paper on the post , and assumed it was first come, first served--- but he agreed to clear out ; it took about half an hour. Clearly there is no oversight here, and no way to assure that people cannot just camp wherever they want. Considering there is no water at all, it was definitely overpriced, but the location near Santa Fe was very convenient.

Great location close to Santa Fe with nice hiking trails. The walk-in sites are a little close to the road (can hear the cars driving by at night), but they offer a good amount of privacy.Very affordable for the amenities offered. We didn't have any issues with the caterpillars, only saw two of them in two days.
@PierreSB824BDA · Camped on Jul 30, 2024 at Campsite #16
Beautiful CG with plenty of shade and cooler temps. Our experience was dampened by the infestation of caterpillars which is of no fault of anyone. They got on everything so we had to wipe them off all stuff before leaving. Host was very nice and knowledgeable. Well be back.
@RonaldT7406782 · Camped on Jul 19, 2024 at Campsite #17
Caterpillars are everywhere! We had to leave a day early, it just ruined the trip. Couldn't even sit outside at picnic table they were crawling up as fast as you swept them off. Should have been warned.

I'm from Colorado - 3rd time I've stayed here and love the campground - this was a very disappointing trip, however, because of an infestation of the Tussock Moth - couldn't stay outside at all - the camper and grounds were a constant maintenance headache - no time for enjoyment - many campers, especially those in tents on the ground got terrible rashes - even though I and my fellow travelers cleaned the RVs to a fault, we still ended up with a few stragglers when we arrived home, where we have ponderosas also - last thing I want to do is transport an infestation - while I understand "nature happens", my beef is that Rec.gov did not alert me prior to allow me the option to cancel the reservation - they've cancelled me in the past due to wildfires, so I don't understand why the lack of communication in this situation

There was an outbreak of the Douglas-Fir Tussock Moth Caterpillar this year and we camped among thousands of caterpillars which can make you sick. They even dropped from the trees. We could not get away from them and they did make us ill. While we were there one child in the campground had to go to the ER due to the caterpillars. The campground itself is beautiful and would have been a lovely place to camp but the caterpillars caused us to stay inside the camper for our whole trip. Would have been nice to know about them before we made our reservations.

Beautiful site next to trailhead; Black Canyon is a small but tree filled campground. Campground host was wonderful. Bathrooms were clean but smelly--could use a deodorizer?

This is such a peaceful campground. One of my new favorites. Love the hiking trail. We ended up staying almost a week

Wonderfull experience as usual! Ive been coming here for years. I was concerned about getting a space because the campsites were filled in advance, but the camp host did a great job in helping me find a site.

Sites are small, built in a small canyon, a great getaway if you are looking for trees and trails. Not especially dog friendly due to limits on where you could take dogs.

Great sites near mtb trails.

The Camp host seem to do nothing but collect money and check on status of campsites. They dont clean a fire pits and they dont clean the campsite and they dont clean the restrooms.

Great campground. Small but beautiful and well kept

Great campground close to Santa Fe. The elevation is a great respite from the heat. The state park close by is also great and within walking distance. Met the sweetest ranger there that recommended several trails. The campsites are somewhat close but there is privacy. The bathrooms are vault toilets only and it is dry camping no amenities. Lastly cell service is non existent however the WiFi at the visitor center at the state party is great.

A beautiful campground. We absolutely loved the rock work at all the campsites. The person running the campground is doing a top notch job. It was also very nice to have the trails right out of the campground. A real winner of a campground.

Everything about our stay was so enjoyable. The site is perfect, beautiful and quiet. The landscaping, fire pit and table are all just what we needed for a weekend getaway. The hosts, Debra and Rick were so friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to go back.

This was a great 1st experience for us!Perfect time to go with the fall colors coming in. The campsites are very clean.Plenty of space to spread out. We brought our overland trailer camped for a few nights. The area felt safe no one bothered anyone..the campsites have alot of distance between each site and you have quite a bit of privacy. The amenities were to be expected. We have our own setup for ease of use..so cannot comment on that. Did see some spigots by the vault toilets looks like they have water. Ez road to get into the camp. Never saw the camp host..? There is hiking and biking in that area..further north is a trail system further south about 10 miles is Santa Fe. Will be back for sure.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
