Peaceful, quiet, clean bathroom, and tons of birds. Sites are mostly well spaced from each other. No camp host meant no firewood, but a sign posted said we could gather any dead wood we found, so it worked out. You can hear the sound of the river from nearly every site. Drove in from Monte Vista through Jasper where the dirt road gets narrow in places and some reports say it gets slick when wet. The other direction in (from Antonito) is fine even in rain. Just take it easy. Long journey to get here but WELL worth it. Scenery is amazing.

The camp host, Tim, was absolutely amazing. The Vault toilet was impeccable! Not to mention, the absolute breathtaking beauty of the place.

Tim and his pup, Duke, were the absolute best hosts Ive EVER encountered. Beautiful campsites, more remote location and right on the river. Cant beat it

The campground was nice, we met some really great people who were camped next to us. The camp host was great, I believe his name was Tim, he kept the cleanest vault toilets Ive been in.

Good clean campground and beautiful area. My only problem is the multitude of ATVs. Just dont understand the hype with these loud, annoying dust creating devices.

This was a beautiful site. It is a long trek up a dirt road, which I was looking forward to for the remoteness of it--and it did meet that expectation. The river was lovely. The flies, though, were not. We were bombarded with them. Clouds of them. It was like they were having a fly conference. It wasn't just this campground though. We went on a short hike in the area, and we were followed up the switchback by our own personal fly groupies. Beautiful location... but with all the wet weather (maybe that was the issue?), we couldn't stand staying as long as we had booked for and ended up changing sites to another campground a few hours away where we were visited by maybe two flies. They may have been super committed groupies that followed us...

Beautiful area! Hiked up to Bear Lake which I highly recommend. The view of the lake is just amazing. We had to drive a little way to the trail head. Beautiful river running along the campground. Reasons I'm rating this 3 stars are: 1) FLIES... holy cow! the flies were terrible. We were literally sitting in a swarm all day long every day, and they bite! There was not a moment of relaxation until after sunset 2) camp host was really hard to locate. camp host was not on site out here which is fine, but it shouldn't be advertised (and even confirmed in reservation with their site #) on the website that there is one and that they provide wood. Finally met camp host when he drove around later the next day to check the campground, but he had no wood. Directed us to place that might have wood. There wasn't any there, so we had to make the 18 mile trip into town for it.

Very beautiful campground on the Conejos River. We really enjoyed it. The 18 miles of dirt road were in fairly decent shape and they were grading it, but it is a bit long. Worth the effort, though.

Love this campground. Far from paved road, next to river. I fly fished above and below the campground for a day and caught 27 trout (granted 25 were under 12”), from the Pinnacles to the big meadow area. So it’s a good location if you’re camping. Just bring everything you need, it’s a long drive back to a real store. I assumed I could get beer in Platoro, and was definitely wrong about that.

Very nice campground with a great camp host. Some of the cleanest bathrooms I have seen in a national park campground. Nice hikes around and there is a good burger place up the road in Platoro.

Beautiful site with great water and clean vault toilets. The only downside was the road to the campsite. It was full of chatter and difficult when pulling a trailer.

good place

This campground has a few excellent sites and is always fairly busy. Reserve early if you want a site near the river. We were pleased that the well was functional this time (it was out in '20) and that we could have a fire (verboten in '20) so that made things nice. There are good hikes nearby (blue lake, bear lake, Conejos falls) and the village of Platoro has a couple good stores and cafes. Although the road up to the campground is awful, we'll be back because we like the destination.

Beautiful camp and well maintained. However, a backhoe showed up our second and third camp days and worked all day moving boulders around to limit access to campsites and access to the water pump. Back up bell and motor roar and scraping completely ruined the ambiance of what would have otherwise have been a wonderful experience by the river. As the camp closes on September 6th, it seems to me that they could have waited a few more days to disrupt the camp. Poor planning!

Make sure you bring insect repellent and extra toilet paper. The Gold Pan restaurant has great food and if you get a chance hike up to the waterfalls which is about 4 miles. If you bring an animal sure to keep it on a leash leash

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
