Location was great! For people traveling, there is about a 2 mile drive where its very rocky, we drove slow and made it up fine.

The campground was ok, sites were huge and spaced out, though my particular site didn't have a lot of shade. Lots of mosquitos as others have said. Bathrooms were ok.What was weird for our stay on a busy August weekend was there was no host, and the reservation signs hadn't been updated in 4-5 days, so it was pretty awkward to have to kick someone out who had recently set up on our spot thinking it was available.

This is one of my favorite campgrounds for car camping. Not sure what happened but my last time here, there was no camp host present and the reservations had not been updated on the campsites. This resulted in someone taking my site that I booked a few months in advance. It wasn't their fault as they had no way of knowing so I wasn't about to ask them to leave, though they did not really make the offer, lol. Really sucked getting there in the evening on Friday to find out we didn't have a place to camp and driving in the dark to find an alternative. This is a great campground but was I very disappointed that my reservation was not honored. Hopefully when I book again next year, this will not be an issue again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Horseshoe Campground! We were lucky to get a good site for tent camping....there aren't very many that are flat-ish. The Limber Grove trail right out of the camp was a very enjoyable hike. Heads up it is a loooong 7 miles on pretty rough road to get to the campsite. The pit toilets were clean but extremely smelly.

Great campground! Clean bathrooms, quiet, and trails from The campground. Some tree cover on site 8 but we had a canopy just in case. Only con was that there was a lot of mosquitos and ants. Bring bug spray and youll have a great time!

Great little campground close to trailheads and streams. Quiet site with plenty of shade and trees. Only downside were the mosquitos!

WHERE ARE THE HOSTS? My husband and I bought a small camper trailer last year and took it to Horseshoe campground for Memorial Day weekend (2023). The campground was lovely, clean, and had hiking trails nearby. The host was so friendly and helpful that we booked another weekend to close out the summer camping season (2023). We decided to make this a tradition and I booked the same campsite for Memorial Day weekend (2024). We were shocked to see so much snow (our bad for not checking) but there was no host. It almost looked like the campground wasn't yet open (despite all the emails I'd received reminding me of the reservation). Fortunately, our site was not snowed in and we had a great time camping. BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOSTS? This concerns me. There were others with reservations that did not have access to their reserved sites. There were no signs posted showing which sites had been reserved and the bathrooms had not been cleaned well. Worst of all - it's been so ingrained in most of us that you don't transport firewood. We - on a whim - bought firewood in town when we got gas. Yet I think we were one of the few sites that had a campfire. We normally buy local wood from the host. For the most part, the campers that did arrive were respectful (though some tried to cut up a downed tree for firewood). I'm concerned that - without a host - as the season picks up, not everyone will be on their best behavior. We have in the past (at another campground) arrived to see someone already in our site. Fortunately, there was a host to clear this up. We camped at another campground the following weekend (May 31 - June 1, 2024) and again - no host. We drove through a third campground - no host. ??? They at least had reservation markers on the sites at these campgrounds. If you are camping this season - arrive early to make sure you get your reserved site and bring your own wood.

The host was really nice.

It was shocking. It is a beautiful, amazing campground. But out of the 30 plus sites only one other was occupied; the others were reserved but people were no shows. Allowing Booz Allen to manage the reservation system is a travesty. When cancellation costs the same as a reservation why would anyone bother to cancel. Why cant Booz Allen penalize people who reserve and done show. It made me sick. I saw it happen again at Great sand Dunes. Full campground - booked sign yet a drive through the campground clearly showed tons of no shows.

Site was nice and clean. The road leading in/out is a little rough but that's all part of the experience!!!!

The campground was well maintained and the host, James, was personable and helpful. The campsite was spacious and away from the road. I enjoyed the trails all around. The road to get there, (4 mile road), is pretty rough on the vehicle so take it slow and be patient. The mosquitoes in this area are no joke! Every one of them are the size of Tinkerbell and they have a relentless disposition that would be an admirable quality if it didn't belong to those blood suckers! I read the reviews...I had the spray repellent, I created a force field around myself... they still hovered around me like a little brother saying "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you!" The vault toilets... I'd rather hang out with Tinkerbell-squito. They were super rank. Overall, great campground and I'd come back again.

Mosquitoes were atrocious. The lots are only marginally trailer friendly.

The campground host while present and greeting customers, did not have the bathrooms clean. There was trash overflowing the trash can and trash on the floor, something that you would expect to be clean since the host was there all day not doing much. He came by an hour after the check- in time when we showed up and made a show of cleaning the picnic table, which was already clean while ignoring the bathrooms completely. Then at 9 P.M. he turned on his very loud generator and left it going until I finally got out of bed and went and knocked on his door and asked him to turn it off. By that time it was 10 P.M.. He did make sure people were checked properly to campsites, so I guess that was good.

Nice site set back from the loop. Easy trail access, host was very knowledgeable about the area

The only reason there I didn't give it 5 stars was that there was no firewood. It would have been nice to have a fire. But the campground is amazing, stars were beautiful, hikes were wonderful, and the campsite was perfect.

Fantastic trip and the new campground host is very helpful!

Horseshoe was a remote, and in some ways challenging, location...but well worth the effort. Aspens in full fall glory created a really festive environment. The layout of the campground is very nice, allowing plenty of space between sites...even though it was sparsely occupied at the time we were there. The campground was well maintained by the very present and personable camp host, Celso. He took obvious pride in his job and made it a point to connect with each camping party in a friendly and helpful way. As for the aforementioned "challenges", one must note the rough unpaved 5-mile drive up the valley, the very high elevation (10k+) which made some trailer appliances not work very well, and the lone water source: an old fashioned hand pump which demanded quite a bit of hard exertion!

Great experience
@JonathanW14164 · Camped on Sep 9, 2022 at Campsite #15
A pleasantly quiet campground, but aging equipment and a yellow jacket infestation left some to be desired. We camped toward the end of the season, and maintenance of the vault toilets had been neglected, apart from being in general disrepair. The road to this facility is also exceptionally rough.
@hannahs3959546 · Camped on Sep 9, 2022 at Campsite #8
Great campsite and the host was really friendly! The only downside was the amount of bees/yellow jacket type insects at our spot. They were everywhere in the morning/early afternoon and it made cooking pretty irritating. It was okay once we got the fire going but just something to keep in mind.
@JeovaniG825314 · Camped on Sep 2, 2022 at Campsite #11
The campground is about six miles away from the Highway 285 and Alma. The road to ge there is a little rough, however, it is well connected to a couple of trailheads for those who like hiking. Takes about two hours to get there from Downtown Denver.

Very well kept and generally quiet campground in the woods near Four Mile Creek. Smaller sized and somewhat remote location, which seemed to keep the traffic down. Great place to get away from most of it. I had good cell phone reception, so the escape was not quite complete, but still a good experience. Camp host Celos is a great, hard-working guy. Full of great tips to enjoy the area. Recommended the Limber Grove Petrified Forest Trail to me. I was thankful that I took him up on his recommendation. Celos obviously enjoys his job and wants everyone to enjoy Horseshoe Campground as much as he does. Bring your bug spray and mosquito netting.
@HarveyW4556339 · Camped on Aug 2, 2022 at Campsite #13
Very nice arrangement of individual campsites with fairly good privacy. Of the 3 sites we reserved, 2 did not have enough flat space or space devoid of jutting rocks to put up a 12x13 tent. That being said, the overall grounds were clean. The other campers (about half full) were very quiet and cordial. Our camp host interacted nicely with us. Recommendation: Hike the Limber Grove trail from the campground trailhead to the parking lot about a mile up the road.

Great camp host! Very well maintained and clean. Pit toilets were about as good as you can imagine....even had air fresheners! Excellent location near the Mt Sherman trailhead. Camp sites were large with lots of space in between.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
