Beautiful spot in the Gorge. I was in Space #14, which is near the highway and you can definitely hear the traffic. I was overnighting, so it worked fine for me. Clean restrooms, and abundant water. Great value!

Nice campground in a great location. Love the Gorge!

A good place to stay to beat the crowds to the nearby Eagle Creek trailhead - if you get up early! The camp facilities are fine. It's well-known that it's noisy from the nearby I-84 but it didn't bother me. Other than that it was pretty quiet at my site, which was located as far from the freeway as I could get. Suggestion: build a noise wall between the freeway and the camp.

I Road my bike from Northeast Portland to Eagle Creek via the old Columbia River Highway I was pulling a 55 lb trailer full of camping gear. I have an e-bike which made the trip possible. When I got into the camp and found my reserved campsite. I went to find water which was right next to the camp host. They were the most friendly people ever run into in a long time! They had an electrical hook up and allowed me to charge up my ebike which took a few hours that evening.

As has been stated, there is definitely noise but mostly a steady drone so wasn't really that disturbing for us. Really a nice campground. Very clean restrooms. Only here one night but will definitely stay here again if we're in this area.

This is a lovely campground set in old growth forest out of sight of the freeway. Its only drawback is the constant roar of the freeway.

Noise from the highway wasnt too bad, the campsite was well maintained along with the restrooms. Stayed over night to hike part of Eagle Creek trail. Will do again

Camp hosts were nice and looked up and coming reservations to see whether or not I could stay an extra night. Noise from I-84 is loud, but the campsite is lovely otherwise. A pretty big branch fell near my tent, which was kinda scary. Very windy during my stay. I love this campsite though

We liked the campground, it has most of the attributes we look for it's small, most sites are pretty private and it's beautiful. However the site we were in #14 was almost on top of #15 these sites could have been combined to make one site and it wouldn't have been any bigger than some of the other sites. Site #14 is located next to a trail and if you're sitting at the table hikers can literally reach out and touch you. The restrooms could have done with a good hosing out. The toilets were cleaned daily and the paper was restocked but the general restroom area had a feel of "good enough" and we have definitely been in better maintained facilities.

Nice site, plenty of privacy, kinda noisy being near the freeway

Good location but the freeway and train noise was almost unbearable.

Perfect place to explore the Columbia River Gorge. Nice long private site. Perfect for a campervan. Quiet at night despite what others have said.

We love Eagle Creek campground especially the camp host!

Wonderful camp host. Watch out for some poison oak on outlook trail. Other trails are heavily trafficked

We left after one night. It’s LOUD. The freeway is right underneath.
@AshleyN6640582 · Camped on May 27, 2023 at Campsite #13
I’ll start with the positives on the campground! It’s very quiet, you have quite a bit of privacy with the majority of the sites due to heavy bushes/ trees. This also helped to keep the sun from beating on you and kept the majority of wind at bay. Also for vault toilets they were really clean, updated, and the smell was very minimal. On to the negatives though! The sites were really small, specifically if your tent camping the ground is uneven. You have room for one tent and any more you will have to put on the driveway due to that. A lot of the driveways were long so that being said, it worked for us. It is noisy being by the freeway but with earplugs it helped to be just white noise.

The campsites are each pretty small, but nicely private from their neighbors. The Eagle Creek trail is busy but really nice. Be sure to carry water and sun protection as much of the trail is pretty exposed to direct sun.

This historic campground, apparently the first the National Forest Service opened, suffers from 2 problems: One which can be fixed, and one that is impossible. The impossible one is due to the march of history: the noise generated by an interstate highway less than a football field away from the campsites. And two separate, heavily-used train tracks. The fixable problem is not an easy or inexpensive fix. But it seems necessary. When the campground was built, undoubtedly the overwhelming majority of campers stayed in tents. RV's and trailers now make up the bulk of today's campers. But the campsites are either short, narrow or on a noticeable slope, making adjustments to have a level sleeping area difficult. The location -- very close to the Columbia River, the Bonneville dam and a lot of history -- is excellent. But the sites need to be somehow better graded and, if possible, lengthened.

The camp area was great but, If you are in the camp site next to I-84 it's noisy (sit 14 or 15). The traffic doesn't slow down at night and the train is louder!
@MichaelW725874 · Camped on Sep 15, 2022 at Campsite #14
Very noisy from the interstate Hwy. Sites are not well suited for tent camping. Not very private or remote atmosphere I was hoping for. The biggest problem was many of the campers at Eagle Creek appeared to be homeless squatters with trashy homemade campers. Junk spread out all over. One family looked like the were living out of old beat up box truck. Our group felt very uneasy about the surroundings and we decided to leave and go elsewhere.
@MagsF3975987 · Camped on Sep 10, 2022 at Campsite #1
We loved it there! Stayed at site 1. Lots of trees to create a private campsite in almost every site. Yes, you could hear road noise and the train but we knew that upfront from previous reviews. Clean vault bathrooms and water fountain . The camp hosts there are delightful! Very kind and helpful. It was our first time in that area and they gave us a lot of the history of that campground and area. First official campground in the US!! We will be coming back.
@MarkP6983494 · Camped on Aug 25, 2022 at Campsite #10
Great campsite! Plenty of room, mostly level, and great tree cover. It doesn't lose 1 star for road/train noise. (We did know going in so I'm in no way upset) but very good overall!
@JanetA3115325 · Camped on Aug 23, 2022 at Campsite #8
Excellent! Location is prime—near the Eagle Creek Trail, a popular PCT alternate route. You’ll hear road noise in the wooded area, so bring ear plugs if that bothers you. The two of us had our own small tents on one site. Recommended.
@MicsM6238249 · Camped on Aug 12, 2022 at Campsite #17
Even though you could hear the highway I loved the campground! It was nice that it was small and every campsite was relatively private! There where plenty of trees to hang a hammock! We where close to the bathrooms which made it a plus since we have a 3 year old! Would definitely come back again sometime!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
