Lots of trees and peaceful location. Sites near the main road have road noise which may be distracting. But then also have the sound of the stream.No electricity or water at the campsites. There are potable water spigots within a 100 feet or so of each campsite. It is not as fresh tasting as what I'm used to, but does the job. There are NO showers at this campgrounds, but the restroom had multiple stalls and running water which were clean and refilled while I was there.

First day at camp someone set the dumpster on fire, we reported the fire. Second night at camp someone took our campsite set up a tent, started a fire (even though our site was reserved and had decoration on the site.) The next morning (3 am) we could hear arguing (over our sound machine, in a closed up van) from the group who had been in our site. The next morning they were shouting profanities and playing loud music. We told the camp host about the previous nights experience to which we were told to call 911 if theres ever a problem. They said they would talk to them which made us uncomfortable for fear of reprisals..We have camped at this recreation area for years but a different campground without any issues. This was just a bad weekend for camping.

My wife and I have been going to Chickasaw Recreational Area for over 50 years. (Started back when it was Platt National Park) Our three children also grew up going to the park. Although the park is just a few blocks out of town, the minute you enter the park you feel you are miles away. The campsites in each of the campgrounds are wooded and spaced well apart. There is no electricity or sewer hookups in the old part but there are hookups at the newer Buckhorn Park and Arbuckle Lake South of the older park area. There are clean flushing restrooms, no showers, and water hydrants in the older campgrounds. Our favorite campground was Rock Creek which is now closed. Cold Springs Campground is now open year round. It is right across the street from Rock Creek swimming holes. We love campsites 20, 21, 22. The camp hosts, Ron and Anne are the nicest couple and helpful with anything you may need. They will be truly missed now that they are retiring this year. Ranger Ashley is also fantastic. You will want to check out the Nature Center, the interpretative Ranger programs, the nature trails behind the Nature Center going to the two springs that feed Rock Creek, Little Niagara, Bromide Hill trail, Veterans Lake, the Bison overlook, swim in the cold year round spring fed Rock Creek water, or swim at Arbuckle Lake. There is so much to do at the park. Spend all day hiking, biking, swimming and return to your campground with a nice fire and enjoy the deer, birds, raccoons, and other wildlife right at your campsite. There is also a five mile hiking, biking, equestrian trail that goes through beautiful secluded park land with rolling hills and creeks from Veterans Lake to the newer Buckhorn area. Also the Chickasaw Cultural Center just outside of the park is well worth visiting to see Indian artifacts, history, and replica village. My wife and I just spent 4 nights with our now grown kids and their families and again had a wonderful time as we have had for over 50 years now.

Awesome environment and volunteers/staffGot to see plenty of deer and wild life. I went in off season (December) and had a wonderful night listening to rain on the tent.

Although mine was a short overnight stay, it was memorable. A short hike surrounded by curious deer in the cool clear night. A warm fire and breakfast in the crisp morning air. Well maintained facilities and organized campsites made for a pleasant outing. The surrounding grounds offer peace and tranquility.

Very woodsy site and camp hostess is the best. Great hikes and dont miss the world class Chickasaw Cultural Center and the very good and educational movie about Chickasaw history. Call for times.

Love the area and campground. Our camp neighbors however were total jerks. Generator, glaring lights, noise, plus they cut down a live tree for firewood. Thankfully the ranger came by and kicked them out.

Our time was pleasant as we were the only ones in the campground from Sunday to Tuesday, with the exception of one or two others camping for one night. The camp sties are quite close together and there isnt as much vegetation between which doesnt provide much privacy., if the campground had been full. Restrooms were kept clean. However, we did not see the Hosts during our time. We enjoyed the Visitors Center and the trails that left from there. Little Niagra was pretty and enjoyable.

There were so many trails and spots to get into the crystal clear water. We loved it! The bathrooms were nice and centrally located. The only issue was the sites are very close together.

Chickasaw Recreation Area is always a treat. There were so many deer in the area and the trails are beautiful. Cold Springs #47 doesn't have another campsite behind you so it's nice for kids to play in the woods. Nice spot to put a tent in the shade. The bathroom is not too far. Water is on the other side of the bathroom which is fine. My biggest complaint is there are no showers. If there were showers this would be the perfect place to camp. The park rangers are friendly and helpful and they will not put up with anyone breaking the rules like quiet hours. Thanks CRA for a beautiful weekend!

Beautiful campground right across from refreshing springs. This was our second visit there and we stayed in spot 28, right across the street from Garfield and Bear Falls. Lots of shade in this campground, but not necessarily our campsite. Water pump available a few sites down. Park rangers patrol continuously as does local police, felt very safe there. Ranger Ron was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Bathrooms have no showers but were stocked with toilet paper and soap. The only drawback was the yellow-jacket-looking bees that were incessant. They didn't sting but were very annoying. Also, lots of raccoons and deer. Can't wait to come back.

We had an awesome time during our stay. Very friendly employees assisting, area well maintained. Perfect spot to get away.

I think #20 is the best in Cold Springs. At the end is more privacy. There is no one behind you with room to play in the woods. Bathroom is a short walk. Water is across the street.

Camp host was the best I have encountered. A little unnerving how she could shape shift and appear anywhere at will. But she was super friendly and set the standard for camp hosts.

We enjoyed our time in cold springs. The camp ground is well maintained, bathrooms are clean. We could walk to all the water areas. The rangers were kind and very helpful. It was overall wonderful.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
