Spent a rainy night at Powell and loved it. Spacious sites, lots of big cedars and a lovely river.

We stayed in Spot A026 9/6/24. I was pleasantly surprised by the 20A, 30A and 50A outlets in the box. The downside was the huge water puddle and muddy mess in the front of the spot. Spots 26 and 28 are just a few feet downhill from a water spigot. Because the spigot is not a threaded faucet, a lot of water is spilled or runs on the ground from folks filling fresh water tanks, etc. That water runs through the front of spot 28 and goes a short distance downhill to the front of spot 26 where it collects in the low section of the road and forms a pool of water on the driveway side of the road and is driven through by everyone. There is nowhere for the water to go so it forms a big muddy mess across the front of spot 26 and spot 28. We had to walk 15 or 20 feet into the next spot to be able to cross into the road without walking through the mud at the end of Spot 26. There had not been any rain for awhile prior to our arrival. Zero cell reception and zero OTA channels.

This used to be a great campground! It appears there is a lack of current staffing. There had been a major wind event and the cleanup was haphazard at best and in many areas unsafe.. The restrooms were disgusting. They were filthy and unsanitary with clogged toilets, urinals with the porcelain gone and no toilet paper.The bear proof dumpsters were abused and no longer bear proof. There is a noxious and invasive weed infestation that is untreated. This whole experience reflects poorly on the US Forest Service!

Was 0leased that "standard electric" included 240V 14-50 service.Also enjoyed a great dinner at Lochsa Lodge less a few minutes' walk away.

Nice campground, good river access, quiet and scenic. Popular ORV area, Recent wind storm affected access to L/C hiking trail.

Despite several trees felled by serious wind storm before our arrival, the A loop camp sites were cleared and ready for guest campers. Campground was full, and B loop filled over the weekend. Big storm Monday night after we arrived, but no more damage and no new fires.

The campground was tore up by a major wind storm two weeks earlier and the camp spots were not very well cleaned up. The toilets weren't maintained and there was no camp host to clean them or maintain the campground. Someone would come around once a week and put some TP in the toilets, but other than that nothing was done in the campground.

We were scheduled for 3 nights but unfortunately on the 2nd night (July 24th) we nearly lost our truck and/or trailer to a devastating storm that blew down several trees causing severe damage. The park crew were awesome in clearing things enough that we could leave the next morning, one day early.The time we were there was terrific. The restrooms were clean and well stocked, the site was well cared for and the overall park experience was terrific.

Campground location and sites are convenient and pleasant. Bathroom was filthy when we arrived. Was made presentable, with some stocking. No campground host, but fairly quiet. Enjoyed birds singing and sound of the river. Lochsa Lodge next door has some options for meals and also a friendly general store. Got hiking, driving, and nature info from helpful staff at the Lolo Pass visitor center (wish we had known earlier about Friday night campground presentations).

The only issue was the bug bites, mosquitos were really bad so be prepared.Other than that it was really great.

We have camped at Powell in the past. This year I found that the campground was well maintained and the facilities were clean. Campers were quiet and it was lovely. A bit odd to see a forest service employee mowing the grass in the campground but I guess that's part of the maintenance and keeping fire risk down.

Although there was no host the campground was well taken care of. We were really impressed by the campground amenities for the price.

This was one of my favorite campgrounds on our trip. We were only there one night, but it was beautiful. I loved the trees, the privacy, and the nearby river. I didn't get a chance to make it to the nearby restaurant and store, but it's nice to know there was that option nearby. The only confusion was whether the site had 50 amp electric. It did! We were in site A016 and we had a 36' 5th wheel.

First let me say it started as a 1st rate belly flop disaster!! The first problem was that my site which I had reserved a couple of months in advance was not posted, so it appeared to be a first come first serve site. Lucky for me my buddy came up the day before and saw that and marked the post with my name and dates. He wasn't as lucky as his site which he had reserved also was not posted and someone had occupied it. He found an open site.We had 3 others from our party also show up and their sites were unposted, but were not taken. The USFS needs to decide that if the camp hosts leave on a certain date then they need to stop taking reservations. They also did not clean the restrooms. The lights in the men's restroom did not work(why we wear headlamps!). Other than that the campground was quiet, the weather was good, the scenery as always was fabulous and the fishing was great! Our group has been coming to Powell for over 20 years and this disappointing at best. We will be back next year and if you want to see us go into the bar at the lodge. Our picture, the fish camp boys is on the wall.Doug Stephens, Montpelier, IdahoRetired Idaho Park Ranger(31 years)

nice campground
@JillB2653233 · Camped on Aug 29, 2023 at Campsite #A14
This is a great quiet campground. The site was advertised as 15 amp electric but we had a 30 amp plug and were able to run our microwave with no problems. The river nearby is lovely and the site was well paved and level. The camp hosts were friendly and the flush toilets were a plus. A dedicated water fill-up spigot for trailers would make this campground even better but we were able to add water to our tank with our water jug. We love this area and this drive along 12. Well stop here whenever we can on our travels.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
