Basal lake lodge is a great place for groups up to 16 to enjoy Mother Nature. The lodge overlooks Balsam Lake. There is a fully functioning kitchen, dining and living room (with a fireplace) plus 3 bunk bed rooms and two bedrooms with 2 twin beds each. There is no cell service within a 5 mile area. It appeared that the Lodge was in the process of setting up a satellite internet connection with a WiFi hotspot, which would be a welcome addition when needing to check the weather etc. We were told that the lake is stocked regularly with trout, but never tried it due to other trout streams we fished at while staying there.

We had a great time with the whole family. Next time we will bring a boat. You do need to improve the information provided on the website--not a campground, mention 5 bedrooms with twin beds or bunks, 3-1/2 bathrooms, well-stocked kitchen. We used sleeping bags and brought our own towels, so we wouldn't have to do laundry.

Always pleasant - and I believe it was as clean as we’ve ever experienced there this time!

The lodge has a million dollar view. It is spacious and has all the amenities. We particularly enjoyed the fire place and the wood provided. Note the gate lock and the lock box for the door key had the same code. We will rent the lodge again. b

I struggled to find details about the lodge, so here are some things to know: 5 bedrooms: 2 with 2 twin beds, 4 with 2 sets bunk beds. 3.5 bathrooms. There is a TV/DVD player. You have to wash/dry/fold any linens you use, so bring your own if you want to get an early start on your departure day. Also be aware that cleaning is by occupants (no professional housekeeping) so the level of cleanliness could vary. Overall a beautiful lodge and wonderfully remote location for a group getaway.

Caretakers were wonderful. So friendly and so helpful. Lodge does need a lot of work. An exterminator would be a good place to start. Overall had a wonderful time.

Lovely lodge in stunning setting! Our family had a wonderful time staying in this well-equipped lodge in the Nantahala Forest next to Balsam Lake. Excellent hiking is located within easy driving distances. The hosts do a beautiful job caring for this property and their communication with us was very helpful. Do plan ahead by downloading hiking and traveling maps, as you will be without internet or cell signal. (And that's a blessing as well -- so nice to be disconnected for a few days!)

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
