Enjoyed our quick night in the lookout. Facility was very clean and this is lookout has electricity. Sunset was beautiful. We did have a lot of smoke coming up the valley from the fires which made the sunset really pink/red. Smoke moved out in the middle of the night so we did get some star gazing in. The road is very easy to drive up with no issues. We did have a few visitors driving up to look at the smoke coming in from fires but they stayed down by the cell towers. The picnic table and fire pit are down by the first set of cell towers. Excellent cell service in the lookout. Highly recommend this fire lookout.

Cab is in nice shape given its age and the elements. Futon is showing signs of age. The views are outstanding and cab has operable windows on 2 sides for a cross breeze on hot days. Road is passable all the way to the top for nearly all vehicles (a bit of extra clearance recommended). An enjoyable time, overall.

Great views and easy to get to. Forest roads in relatively good condition. One of if not the only reservable lookouts in the state with built in electricity. There's a road along the ridge that offers an easy hike with additional viewpoints. You can see the lights in the distance from nearby towns Mt. Vernon and John Day at night. Views and hiking during the day, stargazing, movies and games at night. Only issue was the bugs outside, which weren't bad. Bring spray.

It was my first time going to a fire lookout. It was amazing. It was very well-kept, had electricity, and very clean. The views are incredible. Breathtaking. There were a lot of mosquitoes in May. So we could stay only one night. Could not go for hikes or even stay downstairs. I hope to visit it again soon.

Nice quiet fire lookout. My son and I truly enjoyed staying here. We did see lightening storms in the distance the first night and experienced them the second night. Still a very quiet place and not far off the beaten path. Road to lookout was in great shape (May 2023). Would like to snag a fire lookout again if luck is with me.

We loved the lookout! The views and accommodations are unbeatable. We were thankful to have a stove to cook on and heat. Although the heater barley kept up with the cold Oct. Temps (our fault for going in oct.) and when we turned the oven on it reeked the place out with the smell of mouse pee! There is a mouse in the lookout and he has made a home under the stove. The stove top burners were enough to cook our dinner and thankfully there was a microwave. Over all great experience and would do it again. Word to the next. Bring a mouse trap!!!

Fall Mt. was great! The facility was in good shape and the instructions were clear. My one suggestion is to get rid of the pillows and bedding. I assume they are NEVER washed and become pretty nasty over time.

Beautiful views!! Great amenities! Easy to navigate to with the directions on the site! We made it all the way up no problem in our HYUNDAI Tucson we parked almost under the tower. If you don’t like heights this tower might not be for you but definitely worth facing your fears! Weekends are busy with visitors so keep that in mind if you are looking for complete isolation.

Oven, stove, lights, and heating all in working order. Fridge was kind of lukewarm, just used our cooler instead.

Rats! I left a dish of macaroni and cheese in the fridge! Sorry! Otherwise, everything was wonderful!

The cabin was clean and comfortable. We didn't sleep on the futon... a bit paranoid these days. Another state park we stayed at had a plastic covered mattress that you could sanitize and that was more inviting. Also the futon was broken so you couldn't sit it up into the couch position. Other than that it was lovely and we will be back!

This was my first time staying in a Fire Tower and it was the most amazing experience! I stayed close to the tower for all four days because the skies, weather and life around me were always changing. I didn't want to break the spell by getting in my car or going anywhere else. Thank you Park Service for offering this opportunity. If we are just "still" and observant wonderful things happen!

Great views, amenities, comfy futon. Great service. Was able to make it up there in my four door sedan. Wouldn’t try in a 2 door car/ low rider. Everything seemed well kept. My fiancé did end up getting a tick though so beware of that. We had all the windows closed at night and woke up to 5 flies buzzing around the lookout. Sunset and sunrise here was stunning! Overall great trip.

We had a nice stay in the tower. The access road we took was from the description (FSR 4920) was well marked and, as FSR's go, in very good condition. Our Honda Odyssey made it with no problems. The wonderful access to electricity made life so much easier. Having a cooktop was a dream! The refrigerator, which was a large dorm size, was nice, but it kept food cool but not cold. In this COVID era, I'm sure the living space has never been this clean. We wiped it down before we occupied and after we left; much like everyone else I'm sure. Our views were greatly diminished by smoke from the California fires (625 active fires this week) and the one in Oregon near the Metolius. We were saddened not so much for loss of our view, but the destruction the smoke represents. There are lots of good comments and recommendations in the Tower's Logbook, I recommend scanning it when you arrive.

So damn cold! The space heater was woefully inadequate at providing heat for a comfortable stay. With ample electricity at this site you can surely upgrade to a more adequate heat source!!! Otherwise, it was pretty and offered nice views.

This was the second on the list of lookouts to visit, and it was just as lovely as the first.

Overall the facilities were good. The only issue was a couple broken window panes, which we reported and I assume were soon after fixed. The views from the lookout were spectacular. And the night skies were incredible, a truly dark location, star gazing (and for me astro photography) at it's best. Since it's just nature you can really be upset by it, but at times the bees were very annoying, trying to get in the cabin anytime a door or window was opened, which at times made it a little tough to keep it cool inside. I didn't think the road up was as bad as website claimed, but a high ground clearance vehicle is needed.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
