Bangor City Forest, located near the city, offers trails for hiking, biking, and skiing, though it doesn’t have camping facilities. For more extensive camping, Acadia National Park, located to the northeast on Mount Desert Island, offers campsites surrounded by ocean views and rugged landscapes, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and wildlife watching. Lamoine State Park, located nearby, offers scenic camping by the coast, ideal for beachcombing and picnicking. Maine Highlands, located further inland, offers more remote camping, with lakes and mountains perfect for canoeing and hiking. Bangor’s location makes it a perfect jumping-off point for exploring the natural beauty of Maine.
Barnes Field Campground is located in the Androscoggin Ranger District, White Mountain National Forest (1 hr 38 min west of Lewiston, ME) with an elevation of 1,286 feet. There are a total of 11 campsites including 4 tent-only sites. The campground is open all year. 7 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Prices start at $45.00 per night. Activities include hiking trails.
