Roads beyond the first 4 sites was impassable. There was trash in the firepit.

We and our two dogs had a lovely time! We were the only ones at the camp ground which was great but also a little lonely as we enjoy meeting other campers. That said, it had rained for a few days prior so the streams were flowing (late December) and there were places we could not hike as a result. But we did head up toward Mt Lucia(?) which was a great hike. We only hiked for a couple hours so nowhere near the 12 mile round trip possible to the peak. Incredible bouldering possibilities and amazing views and we will almost certainly return. Know that the site is great but primitive, with pit toilets and no water. Bring it in or go thirsty. Main road was washed over due to rain but alternate dirt road available and in good shape. Took about 1:15 from Hwy 101 to the site, 1 hour if main road not closed. Sites 5-8 are all cool. Site 4 has great vistas and is closest to the toilets but def not a deal breaker. (Odd note: There was someone shooting off a few rounds for some unknown reason. Never felt unsafe, just weird and it was over as soon as it began. Never saw them. Deer hunting season is Aug/Sept, FYI if that bothers youand you look like a deer)Basically dont tell anyone that this is a nice camp ground. ;-)

Memorial is out of the way....way out of the way. Over an hour to town, out of the way. Now that that's out of the way,The campsites are generous, if not particularly private. On holiday weekends, it turns into a party campground, but seems otherwise quiet. Great proximity to swimming and river bathing, could be fishing (if we were earlier in the season), hiking and more.Only complaint: The bathrooms. Though I witnessed at least one "cleaning" of the vault toilets, they smelled like death. To the point that our campsite would receive the downdraft if someone left the door(s) open. So we spent the whole weekend chasing down open doors in the bathroom.

beautiful, idyllic, spacious, pristine drive involves going through military base (spooky to me) but then one arrives at beautiful oak forest with epic rock formations great campsite

Great campground, spent weekend in no 7, hiked from there up Indians Rd to and past Escondido, would of camped there if i could find out any information as to if it was open to drive up, it was, as it turned out.

Clean, mostly shaded and quiet campground. Sites 1-4 can accommodate RVs. There are two pit toilets (that need pumping out), trash cans and recycling. The rock formations are extraordinary. There is a swimming’ hole nearby that had plenty of water in November.

I didn’t know to expect due to very little Information about the place but it was one of the best places I’ve been camping at

This is a lovely spot. I cannot give a high rating to the concessionaire however. We had reserved four campsites for the weekend. When day guests came for a few hours for a memorial service, we were charged $10 per extra vehicle. This seems steep, especially when the vault toilets were not cleaned nor supplied with adequate toilet paper by the visiting concessionaire, nor were the garbage cans emptied. It also seems unreasonable to accept only cash payment for campsites and day use.

Beautiful surroundings. and almost unlimited hiking opportunities. Toilets not very clean and toilet paper not well stocked. Watch out for poison oak, it is coming back strong after the 2020 Dolan fire.

Great site. Less crowded than expected. Check out the trails nearby. Bring water!

Second time here in a month’s time. Campground is great, especially sites 5-8 if you like coverage and a forest vibe. The area is pretty magical and has spectacular views all around. Trails nearby, watering holes everywhere, amazing rock formations and fossils to be found. Plenty of variation in the environment if you explore around and even drive a ways away to see what’s nearby. Easy access to California’s most remote mission, drive through an Army facility, add a couple water crossings to make it a proper adventure. Did it in a Nissan.

Couldn’t get there. A heads up regarding the creek crossings enroute to campground would have been helpful. Water was just a bit high in the pitch black. Bottom line: couldn’t get there had to do a U-ie. Feb. 19, 2022

The hiking around this area is fantastic and it is a great area to bring your pets as well. There are definitely ticks and other bugs but they only seemed to be around during late afternoon. It is a rustic campground without any showers or water but if that is what you're looking for then I highly recomend!
@ChrisB5203459 · Camped on Feb 11, 2022 at Campsite #7
You definitely want to arrive before total darkness as it is very difficult to locate the actual campsites when you get to the location your GPS takes you to. Sites 1-4 are in the more open area you first come to off to the right. You'll see the signage area and the outhouse will be more or less straight ahead. Sites 5-8 you have to continue following the road where it says Road Closed ahead to get to the back half that has access off to your right after going down the road a few hundred feet or so. The area was great, amazing rock formations, plenty of swimming holes, not a ton of wildlife when I went, but there was still plenty to see and explore. Already booked another stay.

Campground was a nice discovery -- a little exposed to sun and wind (and neighbors) without tree cover, but empty enough that it wasn't a problem -- and we thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings. I'd worried that it would be burn-scarred or desolate but there were numerous trails that were quite nice. Hi recommended!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
