The Yaak is such a beautiful area & the continental weather patterns certainly do collide here, hence the fabulous old growth trees & rich vegetation. So many lakes, trails, backroads to explore. The cabin was clean & cozy. The oven does work, you just have to follow the instructions & make sure it lights properly, it may take a couple of attempts. We did have a moose (appx 2 yrs) walk down the river about dusk while we were sitting by the fire & deer came into the yard every day. The beds aren't bad but the futons could use some new cushions.Make sure to bring your own TP as it was not provided. Big thanks to the Forest Service for taking such good care of the place & sharing it with the public. So R E L A X I N G being off the grid. We'll def be back.

Beautiful cabin. Beds are comfortable, futons are not. Outhouse very clean, we found extra toilet paper, you may consider bringing some to add to the stash. Fridge works really well! Did not try the oven, but stove top works great. The light over the stove takes a different kind of mantle (the one with strings), we were not able to replace. We swept up a lot of dog hair that was not from my dogs. Only 3 coffee mugs, FYI. Very quiet and peaceful, Yaak river out back is lovely, lots of birds and river access at the bridge is nice. Can't wait to go back!

We enjoyed our time at upper ford cabin. Very comfortable, and the instant access to the beautiful country which surrounds it makes for one of the very most desirable destinations, check it out!

We had a lovely time. The cabin was well kept and the outhouse was clean. Note to future renters - the oven does not work. The stove top does, so it wasnt a big deal. Cooking utensils are minimal so you might want to bring a few extra if you plan on cooking a lot.

The cabin & surroundings were beautiful! The river was great to have it so close. Lots of birds & water fowl. Pretty cool that an Engleman spruce was harvested there for the capital Christmas tree.

The Upper Ford Cabin is the ultimate place to go off grid. My opinion is this is a great rustic cabin with appropriate luxuries. Right on the Yaak River.

Wonderful cabin in a very special spot. The cabin is very well set up and comfortable. We enjoy how quiet and private the site is despite being pretty close to Yaak if you need something from the store. We will definitely come back for another visit. Thank you to the Three Rivers RD for keeping this site up so well.

Second time staying here. Found the cabin to have been well cleaned from the previous visitors. Fished Hawkins lake and did some other hiking and sightseeing. Great place to get away.

Wonderful cabin with plenty of space and amenities. The creek right by the fire pit is quite the treat.

Loved the cabin and even though it is March we found the cabin warmed up quickly. We were very comfortable. Our Texas company enjoyed it!

Fantastic time! Great cabin, advice I'd give is to make sure you have shorts to sleep in since it gets HOT on the second floor. Also bring extra lights as the propane lights are not quite enough to cook over the stove when its dark. Last bit of advice is bring ALL your food and dishes in coolers/tubs. The mice problem is BAD.

Great cabin love the views. Make sure to bring a lighter, or matches for the propane lights.

We love the upper ford cabin! We visited twice this year both time with lots of kids! such a kid freind cabin with plenty of gas area to play outside and lists of sleeping arrangements. There us a waterfall with a very short walk within a couple of miles that we love to swim in during the summer.

Being able to afford to stay in a cozy cabin, in the great Yaak wilderness right next to the river, because the Forest Service continues to offer this to regular Montanans across the state. I am so grateful and hope that these cabins are always there for us!

This is a very nice cabin in a beautiful location. All propane at this time but appears it will have electricity soon. All appliances worked. The only complaint I have is whoever assembled the beds did it improperly so you feel like you are in a crib and have to climb over a rail. My wife was upset because someone had not picked up their dogs poop in the yard and she stepped in it on her way to the toilet. Come on people, pick up after your dogs!

Lovely little cabin, right by the river. Note to bring supplemental heat if staying in winter. It was probably 20 degrees in the cabin when arriving. The propane heater was not strong enough to heat the whole cabin that night. By the next night it was comfortable. No curtains over the windows. Used sheets to help keep heat in.

Our trip to the Upper Ford Cabin was planned around Thanksgiving. The cabin is in a great location just off the county road and a few miles to the Yaak. The issues we encountered at the cabin really impacted our Thanksgiving meals. After careful food preparation we found that the propane kitchen stove DID NOT WORK properly. Only one stove burner would turn on and the oven would not ignite or turn on. Also the propane heat stove could not be controlled by the thermostat. The heat stove was only on low and the temperature could not be turned up. Luckily it was not sub freezing temperatures. The propane lights really helped keep the cabin warm. When we returned home we contacted the Three River Ranger Station and reported the issues we had with the propane cook stove and heater stove. The Forest Service response was that they knew about the issues with the stove for the past two years and do not have the resources to repair or replace the stoves. Uhmm . . . Our cabin rental fees well at work ! So if you are planning on staying at the Upper Ford Cabin my advise would be . . . enjoy the beautiful scenery, bring a blanket to keep warm when reading a book and bring food that doesn't require to be cooked in the oven. HAPPY TRAILS !

Maintain it please….oven has not worked for the last 6 months at least. Tried to fix it but I think thermo coupler was out. Out house door is broke. I brought enough food for the three days , but oven wasn’t working. Couldn’t use fire pit because of fire danger. I’ve rented this cabin several times and it keeps getting worse but price goes up. I’ve called several times but no one seems to care.

Beautiful setting right along the river. The fire pit was lovely to use as the sun set. The cabin is perfect for a couple or large groups - plenty of sleeping areas and room to hang out. Large kitchen but bring oil- plenty of cookware to use! Spacious, well maintained, and in a really special place. Highly recommend this place and this cabin!

We love this cabin! Right on the river with a great level place to set up chairs to enjoy the ducks & geese, in warmer weather you could walk right in! Had a wonderful evening under the stars at the fire-pit . The gas fireplace kept the cabin toasty. Beautiful wood ceilings and comfy beds. The kitchen lights weren’t working but USFS brought over several lanterns. We’ll definitely be back. No signs of the flies another user noted.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
