If youve never stayed in a fire lookout- this is the perfect one. Great location- easy drive up and all the wonders of the 360 views with sunrise and sunset! A rustic night in comfortable accommodations.

The road to the tower and the tower itself was excellent. Definitely one of the nicer towers we stayed in. The outhouse was a different story. If youre not afraid of spiders then it wasnt an issue. The outhouse had about 300 black widows who kept to themselves but was still unnerving with your trousers down.

Easy to get to and beautiful inside. Narrow stairs and alot of them. You will want to pack light and avoid large coolers because the of the stairs and how narrow they are it is tricky. No table down below so bring chairs. There is a pack rat and he will come visit. Do not leave anything out you don't want stolen or chewed up. He visited us in the middle of the night and got the dogs all wound up. He built a nest in our Blackstone case with tp he found. We really enjoyed this lookout. Had a family drive up and we took them up to see inside. They had no idea they could rent them. The parking area is large and we set up corn hole to play. Exhausted by the time we left from going up and down the tower so.many times. Husband brought a pully and wench he purchased to help get the goods up to the tower.

Thanks for making these available to experience the beauty and solitude of the n idaho mtns. Despite the fires , we had a clear night with great star gazing . Also visited Moyie Crossing and Sinclair lake and hiked a couple trails from the tower.

We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was neat and tidy. The out house was clean. We had fun reading through the guest books. I'd love to know about the history. An addition that would sure be great is a way to lock the door or a working trap door that can be locked while inside. The latch inside the door is pretty useless for anything more than keeping the door shut.

We've stayed overnight here twice, a great experience this year. Thankfully, the area and the lookout are very clean, I didn't see a single piece of trash anywhere. The drive is easy, about an hour from Bonners Ferry. Easily found huckleberries in early-season ripening within 100 yards of the lookout. The outhouse is "rustic", but usable to all but the most picky camper. The only setback was the cooking grate for the fire ring was missing; we hadn't planned on that, so had to improvise with rocks stacked inside the ring. Enjoy! Be respectful! Pack it in, pack it out!

Absolutely loved every moment of being at this lookout. Experienced different ranges of weather during my stay. Every sunset and sunrise was gorgeous. Especially appreciated the wildlife that occupied the area and gave us company. The interior was also very well taken care of.

Really lovely, very clean, great road all the way. In fact, beautiful drive up. Hiking trails right out the front steps. It's a long way from anything and I would 100% go back.

Deer Ridge Lookout is an awesome place to stay. Great views, good hiking, peaceful. Stars and moon at night are fantastic. Many thanks for the USFS for making this available to rent.

Nice, newly updated lookout. Access is easy, Drive to base of tower. Be aware there is no woodburning stove, but a fire-ring is at ground level. There are 2 beds and a table. I saw 4 bears within 1/2 mile of the tower in 2 days. not much other big game sign however.

We loved this lookout. Had a few visitors and picked lots of huckleberries. Our old dog wasn't able to get up the steep stairs to the top, and he's too fat to carry all the way up there, so he had to sleep in the bed of the truck. The rope pull worked great to get our stuff up and down, thought it broke when we tried to pull up the cooler. Good thing we didn't try bringing the dog up in it!

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
