This is a very small ground - 20 sites but only 17 available for campers. Only a very few have water and electric and rest have no services. Unfortunately the sites with services back up to a somewhat busy highway. There are a few trees (and lots of poison ivy!) to muffle a little bit of the sound. We really like the format of our site - kind of y shaped, so the camper is on the right side of the y and/or vehicle is on the left side of the y or you could set up a tent and chairs there. We were in site 17 where we had a clear view of the traffic. But we had a great fire pit (only one like it in the campground) and a large heavy picnic table. Fortunately the traffic does dwindle significantly after dark. There are NO showers in this campground but you can use, for free, the showers at the next campground up the road.This campground does have flush toilets, but neither were cleaned the 5 days we were there. The campground host pretty much ghosted the campground.We did not have an issue with mosquitoes at this campground. There are 2 hikes in this campground. One is a horse trail and has some challenging areas to get around ( we eventually turned around and returned to the campground) and the other went up the mountain and was a really good and gradual hike. Though there is not any internet signal here, we did quite by accident discover ( on day 4) that there is wi-fi. We asked a forestry employee (not the campground host) what the password is and he told us where we could find it. We did and was able to connect with the world our last day there. When we come back to this area, we will probably chose another campground because of the road traffic. Semis cannot climb mountain roads quietly.

We camp here fairly often. This location always has good hosts and very clean sites.

We stayed in our travel trailer while visiting Grayson Highlands and Hungry Mother State Parks and biking the Virginia Creeper Trail. Quiet and peaceful. Very clean restrooms. Note that there are no showers available. There are a couple lovely hiking trails that begin at the campground. We looked at some of the other campgrounds in the area while we were there and decided that next time we would return to this one.

We had a great experience while camping at Racoon National Campground. The hosts were very helpful in every aspect of the trip. We only wished there had been showers available.

We stayed in spot #9, which I selected because of it's proximity to the creek, this worked out great! The faint rush of water passed into someone else's dream as we were whisked off to sleep. I prefer campsites with just a little bit more privacy, and the occasional sound of road noise were why I didn't rate this campground 5stars. Still recommend this place. Nice hiking trails as well to Dickey's Knob and beyond.

Very nice campground. Host campers were nice and maintained the campground in pristine condition. Only wish there was a shower in the bathroom.

Very nice campground. All well maintained and very close to areas to visit such as Marion or West Jefferson, NC

A relatively quiet little campground with a few electric hookups. Very close to county road but not too much traffic. Excellent nearby hiking. Lots of nearby outdoor activities in the area. Campground hosts were not overly friendly but no real problems either.

This was our first time at Raccoon Branch; we're long-time visitors to Grindstone, which is closed for the next few years. Raccoon Branch is small, with only 20 sites. They have bathrooms with flush toilets, but no showers. The water in the bathrooms (sink, toilet) is brownish, which is a little off-putting. We used bottled water in our camper for cooking and coffee. Water pressure was rather low at Raccoon, but not a deal breaker. Couple of nice, short trails around the campground without having to drive off. Also several good hikes within driving distance, including the AT and Grayson Highlands park. It's a nice campground, but we very much miss Grindstone.

Planned for 5 days but rained all the time. The camp host does not give out the internet password anymore and stated that to many people complained and so they don't let anyone use it. Sitting in the camper for a couple of days got boring. You can not get ANY TV signals as well. I ended up leaving 3 days early as it it was calling for more rain.

First night 30 amp hookup failed. We had to move onto another site. When electrician came, he said my sensitive was extremely sensitive. We've never had that problem anywhere else. Electricity fluctuated causing lights to flicker all week.

I got reservations online and then when we got there our campsite with hookups had been taken, so we had to park our 32 ft camper in a spot not big enough with no hookups. Online it said half of the campsites were first come first serve so a few other friends pulled in and set up, but then had to move when the camp host said that the spots were no longer first come first serve even though it said that on recreation.gov. It's a nice campground, but was not happy with the way things were run. I also paid full price and didn't get any hookups.

Enjoyed our stay at Raccoon Branch in June 2020. We stayed at site 8 right beside the creek and the trail head to mountain trail. Bathrooms were clean and campsite was quiet. Remote with no mobile service. Firewood on-site was wet from recent rains but general store in small town only about ten minute drive from campground. Good experience and we would definitely return to camp here again. Great escape from heat of Piedmont during the summer months.

I stayed at Raccoon Branch campground for a week in my fifth wheel RV. The park was very clean, I had a nice site, enough for my RV and to park my truck. The park host was very helpful as there was an issue with the breaker that kept tripping and needing to be upgraded. There were things to do not too far away from the park to enjoy and a store if needed fairly close also. I will stay at this park again if ever in the area.

We enjoyed Raccoon Branch very much, it was quiet and peaceful. The cool breeze coming down off the mountain was refreshing. Close to small town for groceries and gas, and only 13 miles off the interstate. Danny the campground host was very helpful, I will go there again very soon.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
