What an incredible weekend! What an incredible step into past AZ history!The Kentucky Camp cabin was perfect for staging a starting point for a great MTB day ride. The cabin is super basic but exactly what we were looking for. I would suggest following the recommendations on the Kentucky Camp site for things to bring and be prepared for. In addition, a fire starter/lighter is a smart thing to throw in. BBQ is rough but very serviceable. You need a lighter to get it started.AZ Trail nearby is great hike. I would recommend the Passage 4/5 sections. Great path by historic Flume trail area. In addition, Sierra Vista is a 45 minute drive but Tombstone Brewing is well worth it! Great spot for Beer and food.

Cabin located in remote area; When it rains heavily, the road gets muddy and some vehicles might struggle driving through;The heating worked well and the cabin was warm (at night, the temps. dropped to about 40F);Visible (Verizon) had no coverage until you got back about 300 yds. up the road (to the hill);Some cooking utensils, plates, glasses were available, but it is definitely worth bringing some to the cabin;Drip coffee maker was there, but we haven't used it so cannot say if it works;Bring your own cookware, camping stove;Keep in mind the fridge is quite small (think mini-bar at a hotel room), albeit it works quite well;There are mice in the cabin - bring some disinfectant spray / wipes;There is a shower cabin outdoors, but no running water there - just the space to wash yourself using water from some sort of canister;Vault toilet was clean and had some toilet paper, but I recommend you bring your own;The area is wonderful to wander about; Bisbee is about 90 mins. away - definitely worth a visit;

They have a real problem with mice and rats in this cabin it shouldnt be rented out until they can figure out how to keep them out our somebody is going to end up getting really sick from unsanitary conditions

The cabin at Kentucky Camp is fantastic, and we enjoyed our stay very much. It's rustic, historic, and very interesting. The heaters worked well (very necessary for January nights), there were simple but useful tools for modest cooking, and overall the space was just as we expected it to be. Namely, like staying at an old backwoods hunting-camp type setting.Do not expect luxury! The cabin is old and rickety, there are mice around, the sheets are of dubious cleanliness (BRING YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAG), and the sink and pit toilet are outside. All of this is part of the very charm that we were seeking in staying there.

Kentucky Camp is a gem. It's not luxurious, but it doesn't advertise itself as such. It's got everything you need and is only a 20 minute drive from Sonoita and lots of wineries. The house is cozy and the beds are comfortable. Sure, there are mice, but that's to be expected for a 100+ year old building. The Arizona Trail runs right past the cabin and we met a few hikers - one we even knew from back home! A nice part about the cabin is that there's no traffic driving past since the road is gated .2 miles from the cabin. Highly recommend for those who enjoy simple living.

We had two nights reserved at the cabin. It is VERY rustic. We decided to leave early evening without spending our second night there. It was reasonably clean, considering you are dependent on the previous tenants to clean it before leaving; and who knows how often it is professionally cleaned (if ever). There was some evidence of mice droppings here and there. All in all, just has a rather gross, well-used feeling about it. It was very nice to explore the adjacent AZ trail for a few miles. Cool to wander around the Camp and check things out. Wouldn't spend the money to stay at the cabin again. But will definitely return to Kentucky Camp to explore more.

It's not camping. It's not glamping (thank goodness). It's in between cuz the beds are basic and you do them up yourselves. You cook outside no matter the weather (the new grill is great btw) though there is a hotplate...it's definitely 1950's vintage. Microwave is functional. It was chilly this time around and the pilot light on the heater was out, but the electric heaters were adequate. Temps in the 40's late November. We bring our banjos up cuz the adobe block kitchen is wonderful acoustically. Makes a great mini-recording studio.

This cabin was very quaint and homey. The caretakers for the museum building were very friendly and knowledgeable. We were here during the fall so no heat was necessary. The beds were very comfortable but not so much the futon. This cabin is situated on the Arizona Trail and you can follow it in two directions. Fall is a beautiful time to stay at this cabin and experience the leaves changing color. Vault toilets and the cabin were very clean.

We had a great experience at Kentucky Camp. The cabin is rustic, but very comfortable. The cabin was clean but I would recommend you take sheets or blankets to cover the mattresses (assuming you are using a sleeping bag). The porch and rocking chairs were very nice after a day of hiking. And, the camp host was a great host and answered all of our questions.
@RebeccaN872280 · Camped on Feb 9, 2023 at Campsite #1
The building was pretty gross. People had left food inside, so there were mouse droppings all over the kitchen area, throughout the dishes and appliances. Several of the bunks were covered in what appeared to be blood (!!) which was both disturbing and downright unsafe. Luckily there were just two of us, so we didn't need to use those bunks. All the water spigots froze overnight, which I suppose we should have foreseen given the temperatures--so it's wise to plan ahead and fill water jugs for the morning. The grill did not work. Pit toilets were clean. In a pinch this was a warm place to sleep. The gas fireplace kept it cozy overnight.

The cabin was quaint and clean. The toilet didn't smell and was also clean. The porch provided a great viewing area for the sunrise and sunset. There were adequate cooking and cleaning supplies. The only downfall was that the refrigerator didn't get that cold.

We liked this cabin, but, the hotplate there needs to be replaced - it was old and DANGEROUS to use. We turned it on and the cord got so hot we were afraid to use it. Also, please replace the beds in the cabin, they are very dirty. Other than that, the camp host was really nice and we liked the cabin and the area.

We stayed 2 nights at the cabin and had a great time! The hosts Mike and Bonnie were awesome! They showed us around the museum, shared history of the property with us and even gave us some delicious bread to bake, so nice! The first night, the gas fireplace didn't work, otherwise I would give 5 stars but Mike got it working the next day so we were toasty warm the 2nd night. It was relaxing, beautiful, full of AZ history and I feel lucky to have been exposed to it. We will come back again with other family members so they can experience the magic. Don't wait, book it now!

We had an enjoyable one-night stay at KCC. We parked next to the cabin, which was convenient for unloading. The cabin has electric space heaters and a propane furnace in the form of a woodstove. It took us 10 minutes to find the instructions and learn how to start the furnace but, once lit, the cabin was soon cozy. Placing a pot of water on top of the furnace maintained a comfortable level of humidity in the cabin. We brought sheets to cover the plastic covered mattresses, sleeping bags and pillows, and slept well. There was a large and a small coffee maker. We could not plug in the large one while it was on the kitchen counter, so we created a temporary shelf extension by cantilevering a large cutting board, using the microwave oven for a counter weight. It worked, but a short extension cord would be a more elegant solution. There really is no shower, unless you MacGyver a bucket with water heated using the hot plate. The hiking nearby was convenient and scenic. The camp hosts were very friendly and informative. They mentioned that folks who stay at the rustic, remote KCC are generally easy going. Kentucky Camp Cabin is a gem in the ruff. A little more restoration, e.g., finishing the wood floors, adding an indoor sink, and creating a usable shower would make it a more pleasant place to stay, but I suppose that any improvements would require more maintenance and increase demand for the cabin use. In any case, we will aim to stay here again.

Cabin’s grill valve was stuck—couldn’t get it open to grill anything. Otherwise 5 stars. Loved it.

Comfortable beds, good appliances in kitchen with new small refrigerator & freezer. Kitchen light switch is wonky, needs to be replaced. Heavy rain while we were there, stayed warm & cozy. Stovepipe in living room did leak water from roof. Appreciated a few improvements from last visit; rocking chairs on porch, extra hooks on all doors and on/off switch for back porch. Gas grill was hooked up with propane, but did not heat up past 250*. Overall great 3 nights at this special place.

Good stock of kitchen equipment. Comfortable. Shower = hose. Electric radiators if it is cold. Gas grill and charcoal grill. Arizona Trail goes right through front yard. Beautiful location.

How many other ghost towns can you rent for an overnight stay?? Kentucky Camp is wonderful, historic, rustic, remote experience.

Cabin was as described. We brought all the suggested supplies (e.g. toilet paper) but discovered there were some in the cabin. We appreciated the reading material. Stove worked well to heat the living room and kitchen. Very enjoyable.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
