We were there in early September. There were lots of empty sites and it was pretty quiet. We went hiking at nearby ptarmigan creek and that was really a great day.

This is an exceptional campground with sites that feel private and user-friendly. Our nearest bathroom had one side "out of order" but it was relatively easy to find another one. The shore on Kenai Lake is exquisite - quiet, serene, beautiful. The overall area is clean and well maintained and it is easy to book online which we loved.

Great access to Lost Lake trail, Harding Icefield trail, and not far from Seward. Beautiful big campground with clean outhouses.

The Kenai Lake that the campground is next to is beautiful. There are several nice hike in the area but I highly recommend the Lost Lake trail that starts at mile 5 from Seward. It is a moderate hike but also a favorite of mountain bike riders.

We had 8 adults and 18 kids. We did a side trip to Exit Glacier. It was down pouring rain. You can only take a wagon or stroller up so far before you just start hiking up. Walking the lake on a nice sunny day doesnt get any better

Trail River is a nice campground, and fairly quiet even when a lot of other campers are present. Campground hosts are always very helpful and do a great job in keeping everything clean.

Sites 78 and 80 were nice pull through sites that were a short walk from the lake. There was enough room for a trailer and large tent. The campground was very well kept. The majority of the spots on the lake are day use only.
@CherylJ2804884 · Camped on Jun 7, 2024 at Campsite #73
This spot is the 2nd best spot in the campground. It has a view of the lake but the day use area is below this camp site so lots of people walking back and forth

Beautiful lake access!

Really pretty and clean campground with access to the lake beach which is awesome. The only little thing we didn't like that much is that there's just few bathrooms for many people and the drinkable water was really yellow, apart from that awesome place to stay.

The bridge going over Trail River is in horrible condition. Chugach NFS needs to address the replacement sooner than later before theres a failure. Talking with the host the plan is for 2025. Not worth the risk to return until the project is completed.
@RonaldA8285236 · Camped on Aug 5, 2023 at Campsite #76
Dusty roads made for poor air quality. Bridge to campground is dangerous and needs replaced, questionable if I wanted to take my camper over it.
@CherylJ2804884 · Camped on Aug 4, 2023 at Campsite #74
Spot 74 is very open but private with the way you pull in. Its very level and has views of the mountains. Its close to the trail leading to the lake. This campground is very nice even if you got the last spot available it would be a nice spot.

This is a great dry camp site with Great Lake and river access.
@OliviaT8015973 · Camped on Jul 26, 2023 at Campsite #65
Our spot was tucked back in the woods which was nice for privacy but very buggy. There wasnt really a way to get to the lake that wasnt in someone elses camp site, but the day use lake sites were very nice.

I would like to give a shout out to the couple that are the campground hosts this year. They are doing a fabulous job. The campground and the restaurants were clean, the signs were accurate and they checked the campsites regularly.

Trail River Campground is a beautiful campground. Our stay was relaxing and its pretty peaceful there. The host was super nice and helpful. He was able to get us a spot near the lake because that family did not show up for their 3 night stay. One of our favorite campgrounds!

Stayed at sites nr. 33 and nr. 34 - both are beautiful sites - would reserve again.

The camp host was great! And the bathrooms were very clean. Awesome stay, even though it rained :)

Host had reservation signs in place.

The weather was chilly and breezy, so the mosquitoes weren't a problem. There were improvements being made in an area of the campground, so the noise of chainsaws, heavy equipment, etc. was constant during the daytime. Otherwise, a peaceful place. The trains would come through daytime, too, blaring their horns, but not at all at night. The outhouses were clean and stocked with TP, but there was no hand sanitizer in any of them that I used. The bridge

Beautiful camp ground. Very clean and the camp hosts were very helpful. My only complaint is that there is some contruction being done at one of the campsites and heavy equipment was being used. They started work at 0530, both mornings that we were there. Really loud when you are sleeping in a tent.
@JanellJ7728B85 · Camped on Jun 16, 2023 at Campsite #65
Our campsite was a quick walk to the lake and restrooms. It was tucked away back in the woods which was really nice and gave some privacy.
@26350F6A3D7144 · Camped on Jun 9, 2023 at Campsite #37
Campsite was easy to find, well maintained, beautiful, and so close to a large, gorgeous lake. Our group was able to get spots near each other and we had a blast. Will be going there again!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
