The hike was closer to 7.4 miles from trailhead to cabin. was grateful there was a thoughtful person before us who stocked the indoor wood supply. When snowmachines can make it back there, I'd suggest for someone to buck up more wood so others can split.

Stayed at Crescent Lake Cabin 7/21/24. Cabin itself is in great shape. Window screens were good (there were a few mosquitoes outside), door latched smoothly, comfy enough inside with bunks, table, and one bench. Two benches on the porch. Good tools for firewood: 2 saws and a heavy splitting maul. Nice small gravel beach out front to sit and watch the lake. We saw loons and some ducks. There were 3 boats: 1 canoe and 2 row boats. One of the rowboats had a small crack in the right stern on the floor--we could see water seeping in, so used the other boat. Several paddles and oars under the bunks, as well as a few adult and child life jackets. Outhouse is getting full but was clean enough. Crescent Creek Trail to get to the cabin was quite overgrown but otherwise fine, and we took one look at the beginning of the "primitive" trail that continues around the south side of the lake (we'd also rented the Saddle cabin for the next night), but said no way. Could barely see a trail. I wonder how often people rent that cabin and never make it there...

Beware of lack of privacy. Others do not respect cabin users, you may have strangers walking through next to cabin often. We even had a guide in a float plane pull in and tie up then unload his 3 guests. They blocked use for the boat that comes with cabin while parked there. On good note great fishing across lake from cabin 16-19 inch grayling were easy catch.

Wonderful cabin, hiking trail is in good shape but a little bushy in spots. There's a boat available (but was missing one oar lock), and if you don't bring a fishing pole there will be grayling jumping in the lake. If you want to have a nice hot cabin bring some newspaper and be prepared to split wood, like bring gloves. There are several good mauls for splitting. When we hiked in summer 2023 there was no bucked wood so we had to saw it ourselves. There was a good hand saw there but maybe bring your own just in case.

Cresent lake is a very special place. A beautiful mountain lake. Mother Nature wan't so kind, the trail was very muddy, but we still had a great time fishing and pack rafting.

Cabin is in a beautiful location and is in great condition. Hiking app shows 6.5 miles and 1200+ elevation gain. Trail is well engineering, but overgrown with cow parsnip in the non-wooded portions of the trail which can cause severe blisters on bare skin when exposed to sunlight.

Snow machined to the cabin from Carter Lake Trailhead per the suggestion of close friends who made the trip the year before. Stayed on the Wrong Mountain side of the Crescent Lake to avoid unstable parts of the lake that can be found on the opposite shore. Saw rabbit tracks all over.

The cabin itself was great. I prefer this "older style" cabin and their bed layout (opposite sides of the cabins) versus the recently-renovated cabins' bed layout (head to head). We were a bit surprised by the amount and depth of snow patches on the upper half of the trail (16 May) versus same-time last year; but we plodded on and were rewarded. Also, Crescent Lake was iced over this year vs ice-free last year, so it took a bit of looking to find a water-draw spot (thankfully, still close to the cabin). To repeat/modify a USFS request, please think hard about what you "leave behind" for future parties (USFS says don't leave anything behind). In these days of C19, no-one other than mice or bears are going to open that zip-lock bag of home-made trail mix. Thanks again to USFS for this wonderful cabin and trail!

We hiked/snowshoed into the cabin on May 4th. It wasn’t too difficult the first have of the hike, but the second half was deep wet/heavy snow. It took us 9 hours to hike the 6 miles. We were exhausted, when we finally reached the cabin. We enjoyed how quickly the cabin got warm, but left early in the morning so we could hike out while the snow was still hard/frozen. Made it back to our car in 4 hours...lesson learned. My son enjoyed the chili someone left at the cabin, thank you! Thank you for the firewood, too!

It was a bit of a snowmachine ride in, but relatively easy to find. Great accommodations, and would highly recommend for those seeking adventure. My only regret was staying one night. I will definitely do this again for at least 3 days next time. Am curious about the hike in during the summer and will try and explore that option. It would be nice if there was a lower rate for extended overnights at the cabin, as I would be even more willing to make future trips more frequently.

No saw available. Tough to keep cabin warm with just scavenged branches.

Always a great place to stay. Good dry wood is in short supply at the cabin site and it was helpful to cut up some fallen trees about half a mile before the cabin. It was also nice bringing my own saw because the one at the cabin is a little beat up but still usable.

Lovely little cabin! We didn't realize the cabin rental also came with canoes for the lake, we'll have to come back out later in the summer when the lake is melted and we can go out on the water! Cabin had everything we needed - splitting maul, two saws, and a small handful of wood leftover from the previous campers. The recently installed windows were lovely, and the cabin was in beautiful condition. Highly recommend bringing your own TP though, don't expect the previous folks to bring any out for you! As of the end of April, the trail was clear and almost entirely snow free, save one large slide you'll have to hike over.

This is a sweet little cabin that has been well maintained. The trail in is beautiful, and also in great shape. The only challenging part was right at the end, getting to the lake the bridge over the river had flooded, but we were able to hop across logs to get there. We hunted around for firewood, and there were plenty of downed trees in the area. We did have our own saw--which was good because the saws there were quite dull--and there was no maul to split wood, which was limiting.

Love this cabin! We took a group of friends from east coast here after denali & Valdez. They said their experience at this cabin was the best part of their trip. Definitely get out on the row boat, rain or shine!

The cabin was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The lake and surrounding area were beautiful and serene. We took the canoe out on the lake several times and paddled all around the lake. We canoed to the islands and spent several hours exploring them on our second day. The walk-in was easy. We had no issues at all on the way in or the way out. We saw several loons on the lake and a dipper bird on the walkout. The experience was amazing and we had a wonderful time.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
