Chippewa Campground, Medford, WI

Chippewa Campground is located in the Medford-Park Falls Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (1 hr 12 min northeast of Eau Claire, WI) with an elevation of 1,315 feet. There are a total of 76 campsites. The campground is normally open from mid May to the end of September. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 30 and 85 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. 17 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $15.00 to $36.00. Some amenities include drinking water, dump station, playground, boat ramp, swim beach, fish cleaning station, restroom, trash dumpster. Activities include boating, fishing, floating sports.

Camped in early June after a lot of rain. It was VERY buggy. Tried to walk on the 4-wheeler trails, and had to turn around due to the bugs (even though we were soaked in DEET).

It's a lovely area and the sites are large and private. Unfortunately, this spring, with so much rain there was standing water in some of the sites, and the mosquitoes were terrible. There was also a bumper crop of army worms dangling down from the trees and they got on everything, including us. As a result, we were unable to enjoy the outdoors for most of the week. But we had a fun time at the winery in Withee and spent some time looking around Medford. I highly recommend this campground in dry times, but check about the water and bugs before going so you are prepared.

Very nice campground for a reasonable price. We had electricity, which was nice. Witnessed a beautiful sunset over the lake! I think the showers should be free, not $1 for 5 minutes.

Sites are nice, having one with lake access is wonderful for taking out our canoe. This campground could easily be five stars if they simply cleaned the bathrooms. They were not cleaned during our Thursday-Sunday stay and were disgusting. There were cobwebs all over in the toilet stall and shower, floor was wet from a leaking toilet. We tried using one of the other restrooms but it was just as bad. No hand soap or paper towels/hand dryer available. The host site was messy/cluttered with outdoor storage and looked like a permanent residence.

Tons of bugs, few dogs barking at each other, showers run on tokens but there is nothing on any info board on how to get those. No firewood for sale in the camp, so you have to leave to get it. Camp hosts were nowhere to be found. Couldn't locate a phone number for more help. Decided I didn't want to camp after arriving to all that plus 47 morning temps predicted so I went to a hotel in Medford instead.

Campsites were nice size and well maintained. There is only one toilet per campground loop which means you may have to wait in line to use the toilet. One of the beach areas was overgrown with weeds and totally useless.

I have been camping here since I was a little girl. My children grew up camping here with us and now our Grandchildren are experiencing camping here. We all really enjoy this campground. the camp hosts are very friendly and helpful and kind. We have never had a bad experience here.WE LOVE THIS PLACE.

This is a very nice campground. Some mosquitoes but that’s expected up here this time of year! Bathroom was clean, site spacious, and very quiet in the midweek.

Campsite area was adequate. Token machine was broken in the Bass section. Toilet and shower in the women's section was not as clean as those in the Beaver section.

We had a great time at this park. Site was big enough for our 35 ft class A with our 25 ft toad trailer. Having the dump station and fresh water fill on the way in was very convenient.

Signage is small. When you arrive after dark, and have bad cell phone signal, finding your reserved camp site can be an adventure. One way roads certainly need better signs!

Nice sized sites and surrounded by lots of trees so fairly private. 3 loops, first come first serve - electric and non-electric double sites no water hook ups anywhere. only issue we had was the trails on the lake side sites were poor for transporting a large kayak. Nice flush toilets and showers available in each loop.

Had site #S48 Electric reserved in Bass Loop. Have been to several other Cheq Nat. Forest CG's and had really high expectations for this one. The roads coming in and though out the camping loops are paved which is nice but the loop roads are narrow with significant ditches and the entrance to the site was very narrow. The site was good sized with ample space for some dog stakeouts, screen porch, etc. Most of the forest is extremely mature throughout which results in very little ground cover, good for breeze and keeping mosquitos away but reduces the amount of privacy. The traffic, noise and chainsaw use -was very high for a Thurs afternoon / Fri morning along with the camp hosts driving around golf carts/SxS's quite a lot. There are 4 host in the campgrounds, I have never seen that many in a NF campground before. With that many I expected more control of rules and overall cleaner. We moved to a non-electric site, in the Beaver Loop which had direct access to the lake and a significant amount of privacy but cost more than the electric site? That site was large, close to the lake, good view and decent shoreline access but was dirty with lots of wrappers/scraps on ground. We were unable to process an on-line cancellation on Recreation.gov for the remainder of our original site due to poor / fair cell signal. Not a huge deal. The negative of the non-electric sites is the high usage of generators, several hours per day and even after quiet time (10pm), which the hosts should control? Some other NF campgrounds only allow generators for 2 hours at a time 2x per day, personally I believe they should not be allowed. Nothing like listening to generators all day!! Bathrooms on non-electric loop much cleaner than electric...less people?? They are decent with flush toilets and coin showers. Overall disappointed, below expectations, lake is awesome!

Sites were big and level but fairly open. One beach was covered in weeds waist high but other seemed nice. No real hiking trails in campground
