Easy to Reserve. Clean simple site good for med/large tent. Next time I am hoping to get a site closer to canyon wall. Will for sure reserve again.

We left Farmington for Chaco on 9/6. Please get a paper map because GPS is not reliable. Yes, it will show a route but it may be over roads "as the crow flies" instead of a logical path. Luckily, I had a Garmin Mapshare device and could see where we wanted to go. The route was too far north and we crossed a lot of reservation land on some nice roads and one about a mile long that was better left to a tractor, with no need.The weather was mild. Glad we got a tent because the slight breeze was too much for our lightweight sleeping bags. When it got dark the milky way was fabulous. However, the real surprise was at 3am when we went to the bathroom. The sky literally came down to the edges of the canyon. It seemed you could just reach out and touch the stars. They were huge and bright in the pure darkness. We will go back again but next time I want a bed and a floor for comfort.

Small campground in a great location. Each campsite was had a tent pad and extra space for a second tent and the campsites with spaced out well. Pit toilets were clean and stocked with tp and hand sanitizer. Our site was surrounded by junipers and afforded a nice view of the valley. Our campers were very quiet.

Exceptionally well taken care of campground with very clean bathrooms. Ranger Gary came by each night and said hello to each guest. Only shade is late in the day, cast from the rocks of the canyon, but otherwise it is quiet and peaceful. Some lean-tos for shade would be a great improvement. Hiked out to Peaco Blanco one morning, moderate to strenous hike that was about 7-8 miles round trip. This was an exceptionally beautiful and moving experience. Spent about one hour at the site with my wife. If you really want to know the spirit of Chacocoan culture, this is the place to go. We were practically the only ones on the trail, seeing only one other person. Please be respectful of indigenous culture and archaeological sites in situ. Coming back next to hike Pueblo Alto.

Not bad , it definitely was 20 miles of dirt road coming in from the south. Road wasn't to terrible. But the weather was also nice. If weather is bad I could see a couple of places that might be tough. The campground was pretty nice, I'm just not used to camping 10 feet away from other people. I have only boondocked before. But a decent experience overall

What beauty, majesty and natural beauty! Second time to Chaco, first time to camp. Was super excited to have super clean bathrooms with flush toilets and running water! Great staff, and even a bit of cell service at the top of a mesa! Beautiful trails, pristine ruins, and nice park rangers. Will be back, maybe in the cooler months.Thank you.

If you can get through the rough roads to access the park, then you will be in for a magical stay at Chaco Canyon. Gallow campgrounds location is its biggest benefit, as the campsites are primitive. This place is special and well worth the trip.

Very basic campground, but clean. Restrooms were clean and a great plus. Very friendly and helpful staff. If you like roughing it, I would highly recommended!

Chaco is a great place to pray, ponder and plan - and re-boot.I used to visit twice a year, but always try and spend at least 2 nights under the stars.I was very surprised to see the calamity of the rockfall, but was very impressed how the park took care in letting folks gander at it, and closed only the minimal amount of campsites.A shout-out to the camp Ranger Carl, who helped me jumpstart my truck the morning of my departure. I made it to Cuba safely, and purchased a battery.I regret the tribe won't and don't do ANY thing about the road into the Park...One has to realize the indigenous don't really WANT people there. Shame.

Great campground! Chaco at night is marvelous. The facilities and maintenance were NPS modern and clean. If you are prepared for the desert at night (it's cold), then you'll have a cool experience of vastness.

Great facilities, you are in New Mexico so wind is a feature, up the canyon during the day, down at night. Plumbed bathrooms and there are sand filled tent pads and a fire pit, they seem to half lost 60% of the spots to rock falls, so booking ahead is important. It is Chaco though, so the less time spent in camp and the more time exploring, the better a time youll have.
@MikeE418600243 · Camped on May 6, 2024 at Campsite #14
As most visitors have said the two roads to the campground and visitor's center are very rough especially when pulling a camper - you just need to take them slow and be mindful of the conditions (it is best to try and reach the turn offs from the main highways fairly early in the day so you don't have to drive the dirt in the dark). The campground is very basic but that isn't the reason for visiting the area. Windy conditions made our stay a little uncomfortable, but it was still a very worthwhile trip.
@EdwardP2635694 · Camped on May 4, 2024 at Campsite #9
This is a terrible campground. the Tent pad was not big enough for the two tents we had. The campsites are so close together we were "camping with strangers " on both sides of our campsite. This campground design is in callous disregard for the quality experience of the campers. The overall site has abundant space to have been designed better.
@EvaS8466374 · Camped on May 3, 2024 at Campsite #7
I can't imagine why the campground description emphasizes that the camping is primitive, no water available, etc. Gallo has HEATED bathrooms with flushing toilets, running water, a water fountain w bottle filler, etc. It seems well maintained. Only issue was the sandbox tent pad we had was filled with some kind of dirt packed hard as concrete. We had to break it up with a trowel to sleep on it. Love Chaco.

When people say that the road from the north entrance is rough, believe them. Patience is mandatory while driving to the campground, especially if you are pulling a camper. The rough road is about 6 miles. Bring everything you think you will need, especially water and firewood. The campground itself is nice, and the restrooms were some of the cleanest I have seen. The staff at the visitor center was friendly and helpful. Great hiking, lots of petroglyphs and ruins to see. All in all it is a great place to visit.

Host was great!! Bathrooms were super clean.Dump station was out of order and the roads in and out were awful. Acctually broke the hot water heater anode off during travel on the crappy roads.It would be awsome if there were a place to buy some Ice within the park.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
