Great for kayaking as the water is very shallow in a lot of places. Homestead 2 site was very private and nice but s little hard to find. We saw a ton of dolphins, manatees and fish.

Island was wonderful. We have done this years ago and now we would like to do it more.

Great time camping and fishing with friends. Island is a short paddle from River Breeze Park. Nice clean campground. We will be back next year!

Scouts BSA Troop 457 from Inverness, Florida, recently camped at site 7, Brickhouse Cove. This site proved ideal for our larger group, offering ample space for pitching tents and engaging in activities. One of the standout features was its secluded location, resulting in minimal boat traffica welcomed aspect of our stay.During our visit, we found the island to be clean, a testament to its upkeep. As Scouts, we made it a point to leave the site even cleaner than we found it, reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship.It's worth noting that as of March 26, 2024, there was no picnic table at this campsite. While this may not be a significant issue for some campers, it's something to consider when planning your stay.Overall, Brickhouse Cove provided a memorable camping experience, and we would recommend it to others seeking a tranquil retreat amidst nature.

First off a Hand Salute to Ranger Michell Woulard. The Ranger was most informative and helpful in direction and advice. I solo camped at Site #2. The site was a nice paddle from the visitors center. The site was found to be clean and offered a few areas to set up a tent or two. I would recommend Site #2 for a family, first timers or those wishing not to paddle too far. Tip: bug spray if in warm weather. Check to see in there will be a launch from KSC.

A nice private camping experience with no others camping nearby. There was a small airplane circling area almost constantly which was a negative aspect. Take plenty of bug spray for. the no see ums.

We had three wonderful days camping on Orange Island. Great site, easy to find. We had some night visits from the local raccoon population, so be sure you food is protected. We had the added bonus of watching a nighttime rocket launch while we were there. Fabulous.

My son and his friends truly enjoy the Lagoon camping. We do have one request that would improve the camping experience at Brickhouse Cove, a picnic table. The site used to have a picnic table but currently does not. We would request a picnic table at the site. Thanks for providing this wonderful outdoor camping experience.

Great spot! Right on the water and not too far to kayak too. Weather was perfect had a Punic table and fire pit with a cooking grate.

Great place. PSA, if you move the picnic table off the campsite, PLEASE move it back when you leave. It's heavy and it was very difficult for my son and I to move it back. Thanks! :)

This is the third reservation in a row where another group was on the island already set up camping. We choose this island due to proximity to our house and ramp as we don't even camp overnight but like to have the option of shuttling others to join us for a fire and meal. These islands in general are always trashed with people moving the picnic tables to other spots on the island that are not the main campsite and they're too heavy for us to move back where it can be utilized...the fire pit was in the bushes last time we went there but was so rusted out anyway, it would have been pretty worthless. People are constantly cutting down live trees, leaving toilet paper and other trash everywhere. Signage and trash bag hangers may help but enforcement is needed. It seems there's no point in reserving one when there is absolutely zero enforcement or problem solving and no one to answer the phone outside of regular work hours. It really is just a first come first serve unless you are going to try to kick someone off and make them pack everything up. When I've called to say the same things, it's always just, "oh, I wish people wouldn't do that" but no recourse. If an island is reserved, a NPS ranger should go out around the check-out/check-in time and mark the island as reserved and address any glaring issues. Of course they're short staffed but if they cannot be maintained and a reservation enforced, don't take people's money.

Really good experience, beautiful place, extremely helpful and accessible personnel. Definitely you need to bring mosquito repellent and in large amounts. Although it will be physical you dont need to be an athlete to do it and enjoy it.

The permit process was painless and worked well. We enjoyed the camping and the sites were great. 2 items would of made it better. We were a group of older Kayak anglers who subscribe to leave no trace. Everything we brought in we brought out. However upon arrival there was a lot of trash. Normally we carry a trash bag to clean up after less caring individuals however there was so much of it it was impossible to do so. I know there are quite a few campsite but maybe a large raccoon proof receptacle somewhere near but away from the campsite. 2nd item would of been a raccoon food hanging pole. The trees were too weak & low to ground. We had no way to easily protect out food & trash. We ended up putting it inside our hatches and turning over the kayaks. The racoons created a noisy incursion into camp as camp 2 had a ton of garbage left in the firepit.

Stayed on Campsite #10 South Middle Dredge Island on the weekend of September 23rd with a group of 7 guys. Collectively, we all greatly enjoyed our stay on the spacious island. Highlights of the trip were watching the sunset/sunrise on the beach inlet, watching a SpaceX satellite rocket launch with a direct and uninterrupted view across the lagoon, and stargazing while noticing a few shooting stars and satellites in orbit. There is extremely minimal light pollution on the lagoon which makes the sky look like a snow globe. The only complaint we had was the insane amount of no-see-ums, which gets 10x more intense when the sun goes down and the wind dies down. We tried hanging out around our campfire at 11:30pm, but were quickly fleeing towards our tents to hide from the no-see-ums. I can imagine how much better of an experience this would be in the colder months out of the year. If camping in the warmer months, make sure to wear breathable long-sleeve shirts, breathable pants, and closed-toed shoes (they chewed my feet up!). Also, double-check to make sure you have a tent rated to prevent no-see-ums entering. Overall, it was a very memorable weekend and collectively, all of the pros outweighed the con of the no-see-ums. I will definitely be back when cooler weather arrives.

Site 5 is very nice!! People with no permit should be more controlled. We had to wait on both site 5 and 6 for them to ckean up and go.

We stayed at campsite 2. It was amazing and an awesome time. Absolutely beautiful! Just be prepared for thousand's of no see-ums. They ran us out of camp early in the morning due to being eaten alive. The misquotes were not bad. We had multiple thermal cells, bug spray, and a bug fogger, but they were no match for the no see-ums when they showed up in force around 10pm. The racoons decided they wanted to see what we had, but they kept their distance. They were brave, but did not get to close. The paddle back to the launch point was awesome as we watched then sunrise. 05/14/2023

Well kept camp site. New table was a nice addition. We rebuilt the firepit. Lovely island.

We did a two-night canoe camping trip, renting a canoe from the visitors center. They only had one set of single-bladed canoe paddles (the rest are double-bladed kayak paddles or long single-bladed paddleboard paddles), but luckily we snagged that pair and the equipment worked out great. Campsite #2 (Homestead) was amazing. Clean, with a nice shady beach, and a trail across the island to watch the sun set. I would not recommend Campsite #3 (Shipyard), where we booked our second night. The beach was barely large enough to land the canoe, so we were stuck hanging out in a little sandy clearing. Anywhere we ventured outside the camp was littered with toilet paper and buckets left behind by previous campers. So mixed bag on the campsites, but we had a great time anyway. Some dolphins came right up to our canoe on the way home.

We had an unforgettable time. The wildlife was abundant, but the fishing was subpar. The views from the water and waking up every morning with manatees off your camping site is absolutely amazing. From our experience, please keep your eye on the weather and do not expect the park service to offer any assistance if you need their to vacate the island. I'm sure it's in the fine print that you're camping at your own risk, but the staff was condescending and unreliable when we inquired about help. Thankfully we had a friend nearby with a boat who was happy to help evacuate the three of us, including a 10-year-old and a dog. You're absolutely on your own out there. But after all that, we'll definitely return, this time with a bigger boat.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
