Really nice spot to camp. The chemical toilets are pretty bad, but they work. Camp sites are close together but also close to the shore. Bring a small tent, there is no space for giant tents. We actually missed the turn off in the lake and went up the wrong way and came back. Look for no wake buoys, not a visible channel- because it turns it looks like the side of the lake. I'd go here again, it's a fun experience.

A big pile of garbage left by the trash cans left from the previous campers. Not sure how long the garbage was there, but it was scattered everywhere and the was hundreds of bees. The campsite bathrooms had no toilet paper and was disgusting.

The lake was not busy, so it was quiet and pleasant. Unfortunately, we had some negatives to this trip. We stayed at two adjacent campsites, one site we had from Monday through Friday and the other from Tuesday through Friday. When we arrived on Monday, the trash cans at our campsites and the neighboring campsites were all overflowing with trash. Worse, over the following days the wind and raccoons blew and strew the trash all over, including into the lake. Finally, on Thursday morning while we were away in our boat, the trash cans in the campsites were emptied, presumably by the crew responsible for this task. Unfortunately, at about the same time, someone also took our two boxed inflatable kayaks, our boxed inflatable towable two-person tube, our two fishing poles and gear, and our flip-flops, all of which were located down at our beach area where our boat is normally parked. Our beach-staked boat anchor line and the two floats in the water that were attached to the anchor line should have made it apparent that a boat is still being parked there, as should the tents located up the hill at our campsites. If we try to view the taking of our equipment in the best light, the cleanup crew may have taken our items because they thought the items were abandoned. Having said that, it's hard to believe that someone would think that we abandoned over $500 worth of equipment while leaving our tents and other equipment at the campsites. The trash issue and the theft of our equipment were significant downsides to this camping trip. :-(

We love lake Sonoma. It is our happy place. The campsite was well cared for by the person who picked up the trash.

Camped at Skunk Creek camp, and had that campground (actually the whole northern tip of the lake) to ourselves. Easy to haul our tandem kayak from the lake to our site, and all the sites seemed to have at least one flat place for a tent. Fish jumped all around us all day (taunting us; we didn't bring fishing stuff this trip), and several dinner-sized small mouth bass swam within arms' reach of where i stood. Yellow jackets came out every time we had food, so be aware of that if you come to this campground, but we found that walking while eating, or moving away from the cooking site helped. The paddle out to the campground from Yorty Creek Recreation Area took an hour and a half, but that included about a half- hour stop for lunch on the way. Motored boats mostly respected the no-wake zone, at least once they saw us. Took a couple of day-trips exploring the inlets on the north end of the lake. Definitely will return.

Hi, this review is for LP4 only. This site is right on the water and theres no real area to camp or pitch tent. There are so many yellow jackets and wasps (July) that we brought wasp traps which helped mitigate the discomfort so be advised otherwise this is a lovely spot. Might want to reserve any of the other LP sites for pitching a tent however
@LISAS7216541 · Camped on Jul 24, 2025 at Campsite #LP01
LOVED the location!! Gorgeous views of water and mountains. The site was great, except campers before us left food trash everywhere which attracted yellow jackets, highly recommend wasp traps in the summer, which was as life saver for us! Such a nice spot as a central base for exploring and and playing in the lake.

Stayed at Buck Pasture, site 13. Perfect for kids, rocky beach like shoreline. Only bad thing I can say is the yellow jackets were really bad. Had to eat all meals inside our tent. Will go back but with a lot of tlbee traps!

The site was spectacular and we loved everything about our trip with the exception of one item. Trash had not been removed from any of the nearby campsites so we had to keep track of our garbage separately and pack it all out. Additionally, one of the trash cans of a nearby site had fallen over and the trash was scattered all over and partially in the lake. Another couple who arrived days before us said no one came for the trash in several days. I've camped at the lake sites many times and never had this issue and hopefully it was just an isolated issue. Everything else was perfect though as usual!

There was garbage everywhere when we showed up on Thursday. No one ever went to clean up in the 4 nights that we were there. We were there Thursday thru Monday and not one time did anyone go to empty trash cans or clean up. Disappointed that no one cleans!! We were careful to put food in tiny bit of room left in trash can so that we would not get visitors at night time.

Loved Thumb Camp. Plenty of space for beach / boat access. Was not crowded, despite a holiday weekend. Pit toilets left something to be desired, but it's primitive camping so we know what to expect.

Love Lake Sonoma boat camping. Lots of space and shade and wood. The fishing was also very good.

Our site at Rustlers was extremely far from the outhouses. It would be nice to have the outhouses marked on the maps. Lastly, you have a TICK infestation at Rustlers.

Really awesome boat in site! I was the only one there so it made for a memorable canoe trip. The water level was very high so a few sites were under water.

In December, it is not crowded. Yes, it can be chilly. But, it is like have your own private campground.

Dont leave you truck at the parking l had my soft topper camper shell sliced up with razor blade so they could steal a couple tie down straps and a shovel

It's always amazing, only pit toilets but if you can deal with that the camping is unparalleled, sites are almost always available for boat in, been canoe camping there for years and it is always a blast

I really enjoyed camping at Skunk campground, the late was "full" at ~250,000 level. The temps were in the 90s, and the water was 78f which made swimming perfect. We paddled from Yorty creek 3mi over to Thumb campground and continued to Skunk. Being in no-wake zones the water was smooth and paddeling easy. Crossing the between the arms is a no-water ski zone with a 50mph limit, but the 3 boats we saw kept their distance. Only one time around Rustlers campground did we have a boat come in blaring loud music, the rest of the lake especially out by Skunk and Thumb was very quiet and calm.Thumb itself was busy with about 6-8 kayaks, and the camp sites are small and pretty close to each other, and rustic is the right term. They're dirt and I'm not really sure if all of them have a flat spot for a tent. It's nice they have garbage cans, picnic tables (some in better repair than others) and toilets If it was a busy weekend it would suck if you happen to pick a lowsy site, especially since there aren't any picures of site or any way to judge of 1, 2 or 3 are "good" when booking.Given it quiet, and seeing Skunk was empty and 200 feet away we packed up and paddled over to it instead and had the whole campground to ourselves. We had to move sites as we found a yellow jacket nest in the ground about 10 feet away from the table.It was incredibly fun to go swimming, quiet paddling, etc. BUT if it was busy and you can't spread out, or a jerk pulls in blasting thump thump music it can kind of ruin your stay....

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
