Great location - close to walking/biking trails, took bike and went through zephyr cove and back - was relatively easy and safe except last few kilometers. Next day went through rubicon trail to lighthouse and back - also close with really great views. Camp has token-operated showers which is really nice after whole day on a bike or walking.

Fallen Leaf Lake is an absolute gem within the beauty of Tahoe. It feels like a hidden retreat, offering the perfect balance between seclusion and convenience. The campground itself is well-kept, and the flushing toilets are a big plus. Its close enough to town if you need a morning Starbucks, but far enough away to truly disconnect, soak in nature, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Whether youre hiking, kayaking, or just relaxing by the lake, every moment at Fallen Leaf feels like a special escape.

clean and friendly. Love coming end of season when limited campsites and fewer people.

Absolutely lovely to be a natural spot, so well taken care of without overdoing curation. We were nicely welcomed at check-in and by the host and I appreciated their reminders to take care of wildlife and lock up all our food in the bear box and leave no trace. As it was a few days before the campground closed, the area was not crowded and very peaceful with very respectful neighbors. My son got to fish in the lake and down the creek. Just one important detail: as he was fishing in the creek, three times there was a sudden rush of water coming down. He is 11 years old and so was able to manage this surprise, but for a younger child this sudden rush of water could be very dangerous. It turns out that this sudden flow of water was due to the dam being slightly opened by the rangers - it would be good if visitors could be warned in advance that this will happen on a specific day/time.

not a good fire pit

Beautiful sites and nice facilities. Shower was surprisingly nice and priced well for hot water and good pressure. The hikes from the campground and a short car ride were all exceptional.

Had never been here and didnt know what to expect. But absolutely loved it. Huge campground. Huge sites. And Fallen Leaf Lake is gorgeous. Crystal clear flat water. Pebbley beach and shore are the best. Definitely recommend this place.

Awesome camp ground and support staff. Recreation.gov Notso much. Continual inaccurate information about availability. Very frustrating for consumers and the staff. Least favorite camping website of the last 6 years. Fix it. Dotgov should at least function.

Our stay was too short. We used the site as a camping base for a dual sport ride around the lake but we so wished we stayed another 2 to 4 days because the lake was beautiful and bringing bicycles to ride the trails and lake path would have been ideal. Taylor Creek Information Center is nearby but Don and Stacey as our Hosts took such great care of our section in the park we couldn't ask for more. They offered great local insights to the geography, fish and wildlife, they and the rest of the staff were so friendly it really made our stay perfect. Campgrounds are often made best by the people who stay around you. By everyone being considerate so others can enjoy the solitude of wilderness in their own individual way. so if you come to this site to act out, to play your music, overdrink, to behave like you don't care, to drive fast (10 mph max), run generators all day or to be careless with your trash and campfires, well DON'T, please go elsewhere for that or stay at home where those people will be used to your bad behavior. This is a place to respect, to cherish, like a rare family heirloom. It is our US National Forest Service land, it is a small but important example of what makes America wilderness areas so wonderful and different from what you find elsewhere. Please treat this camp, the CG Hosts and your neighbors here well by being on your best behavior. Enjoy ! We can't wait to come back

One of my favorite campgrounds. Big pine trees all around that give the campground a peaceful serene feel. You can enjoy Fallen Leaf lake without leaving the campground or you can walk/bike to shores of Lake Tahoe just 1 mile away. Several popular Tahoe beaches are within a few miles of the campground. South Lake Tahoe with all of its restaurants and amenities is also very close. The bathrooms are kept clean and there are plenty of them.

Great experience in general. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean - but dated bathrooms. Some of the showers need some "freshening up" - coin machine didn't work in one shower. But, overall, a great place to camp. Great location. Close to town but still in the wilderness.

Fallen Leaf has a major bear issue. We had nuisance bears in our campsite nightly. The staff and USFS in charge apparently are not too concerned.

Fallen Leaf Campground is a beautiful place to camp. The campground is very well maintained and the campsites are spacious. I visited midweek in the off season, so it wasn't as crowded as on weekends or during the regular season.
@JohanF574DADEC · Camped on Sep 19, 2024 at Campsite #120
Crowded, loud music even past quiet hours, inattentive camp hosts. Tent camping is now a rarity in this once serene site, with generators starting as early as 6 am. Disappointing experience after decades of nostalgic trips to Fallen Leaf. Still a beautiful lake.

Fallen leaf lake campground was beautiful. The campsites are large, the bathroom was clean and nice. The shower was powerful. It was a quiet campground. We really enjoyed it and will definitely return.

beautiful location. Best campground around the area
@RickH5164294 · Camped on Sep 10, 2024 at Campsite #131
The staff at the campground are wonderful, the location is excellent, and the campsites are spacious and well maintained. The only downside is the amount of people on the area. I imagine that most people that come to the Lake Tahoe area are aware that it is a very popular area. If you are prepared to be around a lot of people, this is an excellent campground.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
