Great views, not much fire wood for the fire, and the sleeping mats were very stiff, I would recommend bring your own. Great place.

We had a great two-night stay. A few pieces of information might be helpful to some. One, the road in was in good shape, but be advised there are no signs giving USFS road numbers. We had brought a downloaded OnX map and that made it easy. Truthfully the main road does go to the lookout, but it splits off quite a few times due to logging operations. Just be advised, especially trying to arrive after dark. Two, we parked off the main road down below, but you could drive a little further and then take the little side road closer to the lookout. It's narrow but not rough, and turning around might be tough. But this would cut the hike by 2/3 and elevation change by half. Three, there was a mouse present which isn't a problem if you handle food/trash well. Could bring a mousetrap. Four, it was pretty drafty due to gaps in the window frames - we stuffed some folded paper towels in them, and covered a few with a little duct tape. Five, there is no firewood provided - we carried one bundle up and otherwise scrounged around for firewood. Six, there were two of us and it was very comfortable, but with four people it would be cozy. All in all we enjoyed our stay immensely - great views, nobody around, was able to do some weather-watching too.

The loggers have done a great job fixing up the road this year. Excellent views and well equipped. One window seems to be missing but since it is boarded up the FS is no doubt aware and working on it.

AT&T and Verizon both had full service! A ton of bed rolls/pads are in the lookout, so I'd recommend packing a sheet instead of carrying a mat up the hill. A propane lantern is also provided in the lookout! I made sure there was a good stock of propane for the next occupants:) The wind came up Saturday afternoon and blew one of the windows in. Lucky it landed on the bed and didn't break. I used the wood and nails I found in the lookout to get it securely back in the frame. Just a warning to beware of falling in windows during your stay!

It is a beautiful building and an amazing location. Seeing the herd of big horn sheep made it even more special.

What an awesome place to spend a couple days. We did a puzzle and made some awesome food, watched a storm roll up the mountain, got stuck in the clouds for half a day, and saw an awesome sunrise. There is work involved, so it’s not necessarily for sissies, but worth every dollar and drop of sweat.

I stayed there with my teenage daughters and mom and we enjoyed our time immensely. The views of the Sapphires and Bitterroot mountains were breathtaking. Watching the sunrises and sunsets was awesome too. The wood stove was nice as we had it going- even in August! The only drawback was the wind; it blew hard enough to keep us awake and it rattled the windows.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
