Excellent location right on Lake Superior. The campsites are a little close together and they could use more water spouts and bathrooms.

The campground is about 38 miles from Munising and 12 from Grand Marais. We stayed in the upper loop, which is largely on a hill. It has about 10 sites, which have trees in between them, so you dont feel crowded. It is very wooded, so lots of shade. Once the vault toilets were cleaned, they didnt smell so much. The campground on the whole was clean. There is water at the kiosk near the entrance. These are as advertised, primitive sites. There is a trail to the lower loop, so you can walk there and get to the main shoreline trail and beach. All of Pictured Rocks is worth seeing and Grand Marais is a cute small town with a great coffee shop.

Wood area . Peaceful with sounds of waves in the distance. Clean and well kept. Thanks to all from the NPS that make this happen.

The camp was okay. Nice location and outstanding park. But the facilities were rough. They had not been cleaned. Could barely stand to go in. Gorgeous park with nice trails!

Beautiful, peaceful location in the woods within walking distance of gorgeous sunsets over Lake Superior. Short hike to lighthouse is well worth it.

We loved our stay in the lower section right across from the lake! Easy access to swimming and sunsets and beautiful hike to lighthouse and log slide. Facility very clean. Just beautiful!

The upper campground at Hurricane River was a nice and quiet place to stay during my trip to Pictured Rocks. It's an easy walk to the Au Sable Lighthouse from there, and an even shorter walk to the lake. The lower sites might have more sounds from the lake which I would have preferred, but everything will still what I needed.

what a beautiful place! Loved the trees . the site was pretty level the walk to the lighthouse along the lake was amazing

Very well maintained campground.Was in upper loop site 8. This site was partially visible to the HWY but this did not impact peacefulness. Latrines were well maintained with plenty of trash disposals. Would return again. If you want the lake to be easily walkable, recommend lower loop if possible but not necessary.

Campsite was nice, designated tent location. Pit toilet clean. Water available. The Highway was close to our site, could hear traffic during the day, but it diminished at dark. Overall very quiet and a nice place. We liked to the lighthouse, good walk and destination. We watched the sunset on Superior, another nice feature. It was a stopping point for our tour of the north coast so we only stayed one night.

Camped in the lower loop. Both sites were great. Each site is separated from the next by a patch of woods which gives a definite sense of solitude and privacy.

Very clean. The park service pulls trash and cleans restrooms daily. I always clean my campsite prior to set-up and only found 1 small piece of litter. Recommend taking the dirt path along the Hurricane River starting at the campgrounds. Bring your food with you or plan on driving to Munising ( 40 min drive ) Campsite #1 Hurricane River Campground Beware that its within smell distance of the Poo Shack. Not real bad but it is noticeable.Smallest site but the only site that provides solar for your panels. I was able to park my trailer total length 15 and truck 17 at campsite. Parks drinking water was very good. 7 days is not enough to take in all the beauty the area has to offer.

Beautiful campground on the shores of Lake Superior. We loved staying here. Site are spacious. Kids loved swimming in the lake every day and is was the perfect location to explore Pictured Rocks from. There are a lot of mosquitos so come with bug spray! We also wished that there was a better way to wash dishes at the campground. There was no dish washing station or even a drain under the spigot. We had to drive to town every day to take showers and do dishes at the RV park.
@RichardF767024 · Camped on Jul 14, 2024 at Campsite #U9
Nice large pad for tent, and wide, long level space for an RV. Bathroom was clean and conveniently located to accommodate every site. I didn't realize that water wasn't available but I had brought enough along.
@CherylF5689303 · Camped on Jul 12, 2024 at Campsite #U8
We loved the spacious sights, and the quiet nights there. The only issue we had was the slope of the sightit required 5 sets of levelers because we had to raise both sets of dualies (on our back tires.)
@JonathanS47608 · Camped on Jul 11, 2024 at Campsite #U3
I was in site 3 and it was a very good spot. This is a very quiet campground within walking distance of the lake. No bug issues either which was a big plus, I highly recommend it.
@BlancaMFEA93B8 · Camped on Jul 9, 2024 at Campsite #L6
Host and ranger were superb handling a situation about someone occupying my spot, the place is beautiful and a few steps from lake Superior. Don't miss the sunset
@JonathanE40733 · Camped on Jul 4, 2024 at Campsite #U6
Well-spaced sites with views into the forest. Can hike/walk to Au Sable Light Station. Quiet hours ignored by neighbors both nights.

Great sunset.

When I arrived, there were a series of human feces piles left astray in the campsite.

Campsite was fine, campground waa clean, but biting flies nearly drove me insane

While weather is unpredictable here in May and June, I prefer coming here then. It's quieter and less crowded. If you like solitude and the spartan amenities car camping can afford, I highly recommend Hurricane River. But it can't be emphasized enough: the weather could be pleasant, but also very likely to be very, very, very lousy. Prepare for freezing rain and winds, and yes, snow in May is not unheard of (one May, I once woke up to a blanket of snow on my site at Sleeping Bear Dunes, which is farther south, so I imagine May snow in the U.P. is not unusual).

We really enjoyed the hikes but the flies were terrible. Not the campground fault. Campsites were acceptable. However the pit toilets could have been cleaner. Seats were left up. Flies bad in the afternoon and floors seem to be always wet.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
