We arrived at Posey Lake late in the evening and had reserved site 16 for tent camping. The biggest problem is that there is no tent pad for the site, or any level ground for that matter except for the paved parking spot. The bathroom across the street was also locked. We drove down to talk to the campground host but the host wasn't present in the campground at all - there was only a number posted to call with issues (of course, there is no cell reception at the site...). We noticed many of the other sites also lacked level ground and/or tent pads. This was super disappointing as we had pre-reserved and paid for two spots ahead of time. We did not stay here, nor will we ever stay at this site again.

The campground was stunning! The camp host,Don, was friendly, helpful, a wealth of information and kept the accommodations clean and tidy. We definitely plan to return to this campground.

One of our favorite summer camp spots. 15 miles of dirt road but worth it. Solar in the summer may be weak due to monsoon season but the trout fishing makes up for it!

Nice campground the lake however is full of weeds making fishing off the two docks impossible

Posey Lake Campground exceeded our expectations. Beautiful location, great fishing, and peaceful campground. The road to the campground is rough, but worth it. The Campground Host Don went above and beyond not only to ensure that the campground was beautiful and clean, but personally added to this spectacular environment with his upbeat and over-the-top personality. We will return soon!

Like every year, the like is beautiful and the fishing good. If you are a T-Mobile customer, you will NOT get phone service; however, most other carriers get good reception from the campground.

Great campsite. Would be perfect if the water system was up and running by Memorial Day weekend.

The campground was extremely clean. The route was clearly marked. The bear locker was very useful. The vaulted toilets were clean. The kids enjoyed the floating docks. Enjoyed the hike to the overlook. Took the utv to hells back bone. Great wildlife viewing.

An idyllic campground. Probably the quietest one Ive ever been to. The road getting there isnt fun but it’s manageable and 20 min from Escalante.
@TysonG170 · Camped on Jul 24, 2020 at Campsite #23
Beautiful campground in a perfect setting. My only complaint is that the website says there is potable water, which is true, but it isn’t located at every site. It is sporadically placed in several areas throughout the campground, and they’ve removed the typical threaded hose connections on the faucet, so it’s challenging to fill your fresh water tank on your trailer, and you have to find an accessible faucet to do so which will not likely be right by your site.

Sunny campsite with some shade. View of Lake. Clean and well maintained.

This little gem of a campground/lake has been a well-kept secret for many years. Over the last 19-years I have been staying at this campground, its popularity has grown where reservations are now necessary on holiday weekends. In the past, one could just show up and have no worries about getting a campsite. This is also evident with the fishing pressure on the small lake. I have noticed that the stocked fish (rainbow and brook trout) have been smaller over-all; however, it is still the best little lake and campground within a three-state radius. Just a "short" eight-hour drive from my home in California, it by far is a better experience than the Eastern Sierra Mountain lakes only six-hours from my home. In addition, the out-of-state Utah fishing license is less expensive than the in-state fishing license in California. The town of Escalante is a mere 16 miles down the mountain making beer and ice runs easy and accessible. There are no showers at the campground; however, showers are available for a small fee at the Escalante Outfitters in Escalante. Potable water, though, is available at the campground as are state-of-the-art toilets. The entire Boulder Mountain and it's primitive alpine lakes are at your doorstep provided you have the proper four-wheel drive vehicle or ATV. Day trips from Posey Lake abound: Hole-in-the-Rock road; Hell's Backbone Trail; exploring the Burr Trail and Grand Staircase National Monument; and Capital Reef National Park are all within a day's travel. The only negative experiences come from either other campers (which is rare) or the occasional "dud" of a campground host. Fortunately, I understand they eventually fired the terrible campground host. Other times (and it's only happened two or three times in 19 years) there has been NO campground host initially over Memorial Day Weekend. This resulted in having no water available as no one was around at the start of the season to have it tested.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
